His name is Simon Pure, and he is anything but… And the character from Ghost Machine and Image ComicsRedcoat may be heading to a theater near you. The title, created by Geoff Johns and Bryan Hitch, is being adapted for a feature film by Atlas Entertainment.

Also colored by Brad Anderson and lettered by Rob Leigh, the film will be written by Johns, based on a story by Johns and Hitch, and will be produced by Charles Roven and Alex Gartner for Atlas Entertainment.

“All great franchises are built on great characters and Redcoat’s Simon Pure is one of them. Funny, charismatic, and lovably roguish, he anchors the IP fantastically,” said Gartner via a press release provided to Comic Book Club.

Added Roven, “I have known Geoff Johns for many years and in some cases had a front row seat to his excellent work in the DC world. Johns and Hitch have formed a brilliant collaboration as writer and illustrator of the Redcoat comics, which have become a top selling fan favorite. Redcoat is innovative comic material and ripe to become a tentpole.”

In Redcoat, a British soldier is accidentally cursed with immortality thanks to a conspiracy that includes multiple major figures from the American Revolution we won’t spoil here. As part of his journey throughout time, he befriends an adorable young Albert Einstein, meets Johnny Appleseed, and many more figures from history. The title is also part of the “Unknown” quarter of Ghost Machine’s publishing plans, an interconnected series of titles that are slowly building up to something called the Unknown War.

“We’re thrilled to collaborate with one of the most accomplished producers working today,” said Johns and Hitch in a joint statement. “From Oppenheimer to Wonder Woman, Chuck Roven helped bring some of the most iconic and inspirational films of our time to the screen.”

Back in 2022, Ghost Machine announced a TV adaptation for Geiger, another Unknown title, but TBD on the status of that one. The first two volumes of Redcoat are now available in stores everywhere.
