The Autumn Kingdom: Through the Blight by Cullen Bunn and Christopher Mitten was a big success for Oni Press, critically acclaimed for the launch of this dark fantasy saga. Good news if you’re a fan: Comic Book Club can exclusively reveal the epic will continue with The Autumn Kingdom: The Wraithbound Queen — and provide a first look at the first issue.
“When I started writing AUTUMN KINGDOM, I knew I had a big, epic story to tell,” said Bunn via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “I also knew that I needed to break it into easy-to-digest chapters. In a lot of ways, it’s like the classic dark sword and sorcery tales of old. You can jump in with WRAITH QUEEN and easily follow and enjoy the story. You’ll know there’s a bigger world to explore, but that only adds fuel to the world-building fire!”
The Autumn Kingdom focuses on sisters Sommer and Winter, whose parents have disappeared into the titular Kingdom. And in Wraithbound Queen, they’ll have to fight their way through “goblins, trolls, and corrupted human souls” to save their fantasy author father and regular ol’ mother.
Alongside a main cover by Mitten, the first issue will feature a variant cover by Morgan Beem, and wraparound variant by Juan Moore of the Odd Artworks YouTube Channel.
“Juan’s signature isometric fantasy illustrations overflow with ghastly ghouls and goblins, weaving rich and surprising details into every piece,” said Oni Press Senior Editor Bess Pallares. “As a fan of the Odd Artworks channel, I knew he’d be the perfect artist to recap Sommer and Winter’s descent into The Autumn Kingdom, with its battles, massive swords, hordes of monsters, and the dark fairy tale feel of this world—and he did not disappoint! I hope this cover is an exciting journey back through the story for returning readers, and an irresistible teaser for newcomers alike.”
