LEGO is boldly going where… Well, many toy manufacturers have gone before, but not LEGO, with a massive, 3,600 piece set featuring the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D, as seen on Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Not only does the set come with minifigures like Captain Picard and a cup of Earl Grey tea (hot), Data with his cat, Spot, Riker with a trombone (!!!), and Guinan, but it even has detachable components (yep, the saucer breaks off), and per PR provided to Comic Book Club, “an opening shuttlebay.” Sadly, the size of the model doesn’t allow for a bridge to sit your little minifigs in, but Riker wouldn’t be able to properly sit in the chairs anyway, so we’ll let it slide. This also marks the third time Whoopi Goldberg has been featured in a LEGO set, after the previously released sets for Sister Act and The View. Just kidding.
The new set will be officially revealed in person to the public this weekend at the LEGO Holiday Lane at Water Tower Palace Chicago from November 7-9, alongside a life-sized LEGO village. Presumably, the Enterprise can’t interact with the LEGO village because of the Prime Directive, but that was not explicated via the provided PR.
That said, the set won’t be available to purchase until November 28 at LEGO.com/Star-Trek, but if you do get it between the 28th and December 1, you’ll also receive a LEGO Icons Star Trek Type 15 Shuttlepod free.
The actual set itself costs $399.99, which seems odd because money doesn’t exist in the future of Star Trek. If you want a fee version, perhaps use your replicator*? Now the only question is, with all your other LEGO models, how you’re going to find space… The final frontier.
(*The bricks you have at home.)
