‘Something Is Killing The Children’ Picked Up By Blumhouse For Movie, Animated Series

Something is Killing the Children is slashing its way onto the big screen. The BOOM! Studios book by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera has been picked up by Blumhouse Productions, to be adapted into both a live-action movie and an adult animated TV series.

“Something is Killing the Children is the comic book that changed my life and career forever.” said James Tynion IV via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “Finding a partner who understood the potential of Erica Slaughter and the world Werther Dell’Edera and I have built was crucial, and we have found that partner in Jason Blum. Nobody understands horror better than Blumhouse, and I can’t wait for the world to see what we all have planned together.”

Focusing on the monster hunter Erica Slaughter, Something is Killing the Children is set in a world where children — not adults — can see monsters. That is except for members of the Order of St. George, a mysterious global organization with shady methods, who Erica, at least at first, works for. The book has so far sold over five million copies worldwide, per BOOM!

“It’s easy to see why audiences and critics alike have praised Something is Killing the Children,” said Jason Blum, Blumhouse CEO and Founder. “James and Werther’s comic book series taps into our most primal fears, luring us into a fascinating world and introducing Erica Slaughter, the ass-kicking hero we all wish we had to fight the monsters that lurk in the dark.”

The animated series will be adapted and executive produced by Tynion, with Dell’Edera serving as Co-Executive Producer and visual development consultant. Meanwhile, the feature film will be produced by Tynion and BOOM!’s Stephen Christy, co-produced by Dell’Edera, and Executive Produced by Adam Yoelin and Mette Norkjaer.

“Developing Something Is Killing the Children with Blumhouse is a milestone for BOOM! Studios,” said Christy. “In this deal, Jason Blum has shown a real commitment to putting James and Werther’s vision first, which means everything to us. We’ve been on this journey with them since the very first issue, and to now partner with Blumhouse to bring their world to film and television feels like the culmination of years of belief in this story.”

If you’re worried this will impact the comics? Well, don’t. BOOM! is publishing at least 100 issues of the book, and a new event series titled Fall of the House of Slaughter will be released next year, leading to the release of Something is Killing the Children #50.

No additional creatives have been announced at this time, or premiere dates. Previously, SiKTC was in development as a series at Netflix. Blumhouse posted a short animation announcing the deal, which you can check out below:
