James Tynion IV is getting back to his DC roots, literally. With next year’s release of Something is Killing the Children #50, his BOOM! Studios book, the festivities will spill over into a crossover with DC’s Black Label line, titled — what else — Swamp Thing is Killing the Children.
A co-publication between DC Black Label and BOOM! Studios this was announced at the BOOM! Studios panel at New York Comic Con. While no artist was shared or release date, Tynion did explain that, “My love for DC Comics comes from DC horror.”
Later, at a Tiny Onion panel (Tynion’s imprint), the writer explained that, “DC does want me to confirm that the real Swamp Thing that you love doesn’t actually kill children. There were some people nervous about the title.”
It’s also a big year for Swamp Thing, as DC will finally publish Rick Veitch’s “lost” Swamp Thing ’89, aka the story where Swamp Thing meets Jesus.
So what will happen in the book? Will Werther Dell’Edera, who is currently working on a Elseworlds book for DC, do the art? Will Erica Slaughter kill Swamp Thing? Will Erica also meet Jesus? We’ll find out more in 2026.
