New York Comic Con 2025 Retailer Day Recap:

New York Comic Con kicked off a day early on Wednesday, October 8, with a slew of big reveals, news, and other surprises. Though the bulk of the day was reserved for discussing issues of sales and presentations from publishers, we’re bringing you some news highlights from this pre-con con day.

First up? As expected, Marvel’s Ultimate Universe is indeed ending in 2026. April, specifically, after the conclusion of the upcoming Ultimate Endgame series that wraps up two years of storytelling. While that was generally greeted with a resounding, “yeah, right” in response to Marvel saying the best-selling line is over… Well, everyone is probably right. But as for whether we’ll get Ultimate Universe 3.0, a continuation, or a true ending is TBD.

Marvel also announced two new series. The first, Godzilla: Infinity Roar, spins out of the end of Godzilla Destroys The Marvel Universe, and finds Godzilla heading to space to team up with Knull, God of the Symbiotes and battle the rest of cosmic Marvel. The five-issue series is written by Gerry Duggan with art by Javier Garrón, and will debut on February 4, 2026.

Also in February, Jed MacKay will relaunch Moon Knight for the fourth time, this time joined by artist Devmalya Pramanik, with the title changing to Marc Spector: Moon Knight #1.

Over at Image Comics, the previously teased new book by Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen, who worked together on Descender, Ascender and Little Monsters, is titled Crowbound. It’s an ongoing dark fantasy series about a woman who heads off across a wasteland to rescue her daughter from the clutches of evil creatures. That title will debut in March.

But the biggest splash wasn’t an announcement at all. During a mission statement style speech by Jim Lee, the publisher explained plainly the company’s take on AI: no thanks.

Said Lee, “DC Comics will not support AI-generated storytelling or artwork. Not now. Not ever—as long as Anne Depies and I are in charge… AI doesn’t dream. It doesn’t feel. And it doesn’t make art—it aggregates it. Our job—as creators, as storytellers, as publishers—is to make people feel something real. That’s why we create. That’s why we’re still here.”

A strong statement that was reportedly well received in the room… And was certainly glowingly received online.
