Batman Books Top September 2025 Best-Selling Graphic Novels:
Yesterday, we brought you breaking news of how the character Batman is pretty popular, when it comes to single issue comic book sales. Well, in a true shocker, people like Batman graphic novels, as well.
Per ICv2, DC’s new Compact Comics volume for Batman: Arkham Asylum was the top of the charts for September, 2025. Following that, the Absolute Batman Volume 1 softcover came in at number two, and the Batman: Court of Owls Compact Comic came in at number three. In addition, three more Batman graphic novels hit the charts.
Including those six, DC Comics took 12 slots on the Top 20, with Absolute Wonder Woman and Absolute Superman rounding out the top five. And eight of DC’s entries were part of the massively popular Compact Comics line.
That left eight remaining slots: four for Marvel, and four for Image Comics. Marvel’s titles were all from the Ultimate Universe, with Ultimate Spider-Man, Volume 3 ranking the highest, at number six.
Image Comics, in a change of pace, did not rank anything from the Energon Universe. Instead, the four titles included are Exquisite Corpses, Knives: A Criminal Book, Assorted Crisis Events, and the second volume of The Power Fantasy.
Jem And The Holograms Heads To BOOM!:
Here’s some truly outrageous news: BOOM! Studios has snagged the publishing rights to Jem and the Holograms, which was previously held by IDW.
BOOM! will work with Hasbro to mount a tour (read: make comics) featuring Jem (and the Holograms) starting in 2026. It will kick off early though with, per PR, “a BOOM! Direct Reserve Campaign collecting the historic run of JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS comics launching on Kickstarter this November.”
First launched in 1985, the classic cartoon created by Christy Marx has some comic bonafides… Alongside Hasbro, the original series came from Marvel Productions. The show focused on Jerrica Benton, who used hologram tech to masquerade as Jem, the lead singer of the band. While they’d tour, they’d also tangle with their evil opposite band, The Misfits.
You might be able to do the math here, but this is the 40th anniversary of Jem and the Holograms. The first Jem comics were released in 2011, followed by an IDW series in 2015, launched with writer Kelly Thompson. As for upcoming creative teams? TBA.
IDW Dark Unveils Upcoming Horror Slate:
First announced at last year’s New York Comic Con, ahead of this year’s, IDW Dark has finally opened the cellar door to gaze in terror on four new titles coming soon.
First up? Following on Smile and its sequel, writer Hannah Rose May and artist Miriana Puglia will take on Smile: For The Camera. Set in 2005, the title follows a group of international models all together for Fashion Month in New York. Unfortunately, the Smile Entity is on trend, too.
Next is A Quiet Place: Storm Warning, which will be written by Phil Hester with art by Ryan Kelly, and focus on a small island town in the midwest who have to do the thing hardest for people in the midwest to do: shut up for a second. I’m kidding.
A surprise announcement is The Exorcism at Buckingham Palace, also by May, with art by Kelsey Ramsay. A sequel to the excellent Exorcism at 1600 Penn, you can probably figure this one out, but it transports the action to London.
And last up is Operation: Iron Coffin, by Kenny Porter and Tyrell Cannon. Based on Dracula, it transposes the action to World War II, where the British drop the titular coffin on a train full of Nazis. It’s up to the good Count to stop Hitler from creating a vampire army.
All four titles will hit in 2026.
For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. And it’s a real “let them fight” situation with Dracula and Hitler, huh?
