31 Days Of Halloween Comics: Exquisite Corpses

If you’re looking for a ton of action alongside your horror, look no further than Image ComicsExquisite Corpses. The new series created by James Tynion IV and Michael Walsh alongside a host of other name writers and artists is already a hit, with tabletop games and more of the most horrifying thing known to man waiting in the wings: franchise opportunities.

The conceit is that once a year the world’s real bosses join together to cordon off one town and turn it into a serial killer and assassin playground. Each of the pseudo-Illuminati members has a representative in the killer group, and whichever death-dealer survives until the end, their boss gets to control the world.

While Tynion and Walsh provide the framing device back at HQ and anchored the kick-off issue, per the name of the book the bulk of each issue is passed off to a new writer/artist team to focus on a new killer (or killers) as well as furthering the overall story. It’s a killer idea that brings different storytelling modes into the fold — halfway between serialized story and horror anthology.

And beyond the unique killers that would feel right at home in The Purge, there’s also the townspeople who are slowly coming to realize this is no normal Halloween.

Twisty, bloody, with an engaging overall mythology, Exquisite Corpses shows there’s still life in the horror comics genre.

It’s spooky season, and you know what that means: time to curl up with a comic book or graphic novel that will scare your socks off. With that in mind, we’re posting a new horror book to check out every day of October, for our 31 Days Of Halloween Comics. Awoooo! Looking for the rest of our picks? Check them out on the Halloween tag.
