Oni Press Reveals New, Not Terrible Logo Ahead Of New York Comic Con

Oni Press Logo 2025

It’s become a bit of a tradition for a major comic book company to unveil a new logo ahead of New York Comic Con. The results may vary, but in a rare case of “actually, that’s an okay upgrade,” Oni Press has revealed a new, non-terrible logo ahead of the convention later this week.

Designed by Patrick Crotty, who also designed the lauded Scott Pilgrim 20th Anniversary box sets that I just missed buying at my local Barnes & Noble’s store-wide renovation sale, the new logo will first debut this November on Crownsville #1, per Publisher’s Weekly — though it’s already live on the company’s website, and will likely make an appearance later this week at NYCC.

This marks the third logo since the publisher debuted in 1997. Both of the previous designs sported an Oni, per the publisher’s name, a demon of Japanese folklore. The first was designed by Dave Gibbons. The second, which debuted in 2012, was designed by Keith A. Wood, and downplayed the demon to an eyeball. The current logo will include just “Oni Press,” though a variation shows a more dragon-like Oni standing on the logo, holding a flag.

“At Oni Press, we live, eat, and breathe comics,” Oni President & Publisher Hunter Gorinson told AIPT. “It’s a great privilege and a true dream to be able to collaborate with creators and cartoonists we deeply admire to bring their work to the widest audience possible. For nearly three decades, Oni has prided itself on elevating new voices, taking creative risks, and, above all, championing the comics medium as a global art form with a far-reaching power all its own. Now, with our 30th anniversary just over the horizon, we’re gearing up to unveil the first of several major new surprises that will propel us toward even greater heights in the years ahead. We’re ready for it – onward!”

At the current time, there’s no word on whether they’re planning on squeezing together the letters so it looks like the name of their company is “OI.”
