A Major ‘The Boys’ Cameo Changes Everything For ‘Gen V’ — And Reveals The Shocking Status Quo Of Another ‘The Boys’ Character

Gen V Season 2 Episode 4

This week’s episode of Gen V, titled “The Kids Are Not Alright,” featured an array of surprising reveals. But one shocker wasn’t even held until late in the episode. Spoilers past this point, but just like she is over on The Boys, Sister Sage (Susan Heyward) is involved in the shady goings on at Godolkin University. And not only that, we’ve finally found out at least a little bit more about what happened to Ashley Barrett (Colby Minifie).

In fact, Sister Sage pops up right in this week’s cold open, which is set “one month ago” before the events of Gen V Season 2. In it, she shows up in Cipher’s (Hamish Linklater) house as he’s taking care of the burn victim — who is likely Thomas Godolkin (Ethan Slater), though at this point not confirmed by the show. She beats him up and then proceeds to have sex with him (Cipher, not the crispy dude) while the burned dude watches. Pretty weird, though par for the course for The Boys universe — and certainly helps emphasize certain theories that have been bouncing around the internet in regards to Cipher’s powers.

But that’s not it for Sister Sage — not by a long shot. In a later scene, not only do we find out that Sage is not the CEO of Vought, but Ashley is out. “Ashley Barrett certainly can’t,” Sage says. “Not in her state.” In case you forgot, in order to escape being killed by Homelander (Antony Starr), Ashley injected herself with Compound V in The Boys Season 4 finale. We saw her bald head pulse, she screamed, that was the end of it. We still don’t know what her powers are — smart money says either large-head mind control powers, or some sort of Hulk situation. But we do know she’s out at Vought, and Sage is in charge.

The bigger question, though, is what Sage and Cipher are up to? They talk about how they’re running out of time… But to do what? Here too, we only have guesses, but Cipher has been very focused on forcing Marie (Jaz Sinclair) into a situation where she has to push her blood-bending powers… This leads to a surprising resurrection at the end of the episode. Perhaps they need to bring someone back to life, or use her powers in some way on Mr. Crispy?

And furthermore, how does this tie, if at all, to the overarching plan Sister Sage laid out in The Boys? Is this the second stage of her plan after installing Homelander as essentially king of the United States? Or is this a side gambit where she gets to have sex with Cipher and have a little fun? As is, we’ve only got three more weeks before we find out.
