Back in 2013, Crunchyroll launched Crunchyroll Manga, an anthology with 12 titles released in English after they were released in Japan. That shut down in 2023, but now, somehow, Crunchyroll Manga has returned. This October, the brand new service with a similar-sounding name will launch on iOS and Android in the U.S. and Canada on October 9, 2025, followed by a web version on October 15, 2025.
“Anime and manga have always been two sides of the same coin, and Crunchyroll is uniquely positioned to bring them together for fans everywhere,” said Asa Suehira, Chief Content Officer at Crunchyroll, via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “With this launch, we’re not just creating another reading app, we’re expanding the ultimate anime lifestyle experience, uniting stories on the screen with those on the page.”
That’s all well and good, but what does it actually mean? The new app will include an ad-free experience featuring titles from AlphaPolis, COMPASS, Square Enix, VIZ Media, and Yen Press. Down the road, Crunchyroll Manga will add more titles from Shueisha, J-Novel Club, ThirdlineNEXT, highstone, and more. That includes some top-tier titles including One Piece, Jujutsu Kaisen, Daemons of the Shadow Realm, My Dress-Up Darling, The Summer Hikaru Died, Lycoris Recoil, Delicious in Dungeon, Sasaki and Miyano, Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy, Maiden of the Dragon: Falling for the Demon’s Lies and more there, as well.
To answer a few pressing questions, if you already enjoy the anime library on Crunchyroll, this is a separate app. However, if you’re a Crunchyroll Ultimate Fan subscriber, which costs $15.99/month, you’ll get Crunchyroll Manga included in the price.
And there are two other tiers, per PR from Crunchyroll:
- Crunchyroll Fan subscription + Manga – $11.99 USD / $15.49 CAD per month (includes Manga add-on at $4.00 USD / $5.50 CAD)
- Crunchyroll Mega Fan subscription + Manga – $15.49 USD / $17.49 CAD per month (includes Manga add-on at $3.50 USD / $5.00 CAD)
You’ll also be able to read across platforms, download chapters for offline reading, view 2-page spreads, and build a personalized reading list.
Want to know more? Hot on the heels of the launch, there will be hands-on demos of the Crunchyroll Manga app at New York Comic Con, at the Crunchyroll booth (#1643).
