‘Gen V’ Kills Elon Musk

Jaz Sinclair (Marie Moreau), Hamish Linklater (Dean Cipher)

In the latest episode of Gen V Season 2, titled “Bags,” the show — and spoilers past this point, though we put it in the headline — kills Elon Musk. And not only that? Julia Fox is next.

…Okay, fine, they kill a goat named Elon Musk, not the actual tech billionaire. But the thought is there, and it’s unmistakable why they named the goat Elon Musk… This isn’t a fawning “Hey, he’s just like Tony Stark!” cameo like in Iron Man 2, or when Rick & Morty cast Musk as Elon Tusk. Nope, as per usual for Gen V, they are absolutely skewering the man, and they don’t make any bones about it. Or flesh. Or muscles.

In the episode, Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair) is back training with the mysterious Dean Cipher (Hamish Linklater), who is going more Yoda than usual. Marie’s powers are blood-based, but he thinks she can do so much more than she has been doing, which is essentially using her own blood as a sort of whip/chain deal. First, he asks her to move a bag of blood from one table to another, without bursting the bag (hence the name of the episode). After a false start, she moves all of them, and he takes her up to the next level… They bring out a goat named Elon Musk. And Cipher tells Marie to move the blood in the goat, as well, because living beings aren’t really that different from fragile plastic bags full of blood.

Marie, who is very much not sure of her own powers and certainly doesn’t trust Cipher, asks, “What if I kill Elon?”

“That’s why we named them for a**holes,” Cipher explains. Killer punchline, killer delivery from Linklater, and despite writing this season over a year ago, absolutely on the pulse of a world that has turned on a guy who moved fast and broke things that just happened to be the US government, and he didn’t bother to fix them or make them better, while leading to a situation that itself could lead to 14 million deaths. Honestly, calling a goat named after him an a**hole is the least he deserves.

Anywho! After a pump-up speech where Cipher reveals he knows that the Odessa Project created Marie, and they were trying to make her more powerful than Homelander, his kicker is, “Now what do you say you levitate Elon Musk?”

At first, like the initial Tesla stock price, things seem to be going great. Marie raises up Elon Musk in the air, he’s practically flying like a SpaceX rocket. And then, also like a SpaceX rocket, Elon Musk (the goat) explodes.

“Bring in Julia Fox,” says Cipher to one of his lackeys, in another perfect punchline to the scene.

So yeah, RIP, Elon Musk the goat. At least you never killed any monkeys.
