The big MacGuffin of Peacemaker Season 2 is the Quantum Unfolding Chamber (QUC), aka the portal that Peacemaker (John Cena) keeps in his bedroom, which connects to 99 other dimensions, including the (probably racist) DC2. The assumption since Season 1 of the series was that it was built by Peacemaker’s dad, Auggie (Robert Patrick), who also designed Peacemaker’s helmets. Well, guess what? As of Peacemaker Season 2, Episode 4, “Need I Say Door,” we know the real origin of the QUC, and it’s as twisted as you might expect from the series.
Spoilers for Peacemaker Season 2, Episode 4 “Need I Say Door” past this point.
The origin of the QUC kicks off with a flashback right at the start of the episode to a still-alive Auggie taking his sons Chris (Myles Benson) and Keith (Bryson Haney) on a hunting trip in the woods 35 years ago — and to be clear, this is the main DCU, not the alternate Earth DC2. Auggie shoots something that whimpers after getting injured — and you’d be forgiven from thinking it’s Weasel, the misshapen “villain” who is voiced by Sean Gunn and appeared previously in The Suicide Squad and Creature Commandos.
No, it’s actually most likely our first glimpse at a fifth-dimensional imp, which has been previously mentioned in Superman and Peacemaker. In fact, the Auggie from DC2 made a joke about them, saying that the imps were chasing after their version of Chris because he wanted giant candy canes from their dimension. Given the events here, it’s possible that if this is indeed an imp, what they were actually after was their QUC.
That’s because the creature is carrying a strange case that connects to the QUC, which the trio (not a Top Trio, but regardless) realizes when they see a door open to the QUC in the woods after Auggie blasts the poor thing’s head off. Young Chris picks up the blood-spattered case while Keith and Auggie wander towards the door… And that’s pretty much all we get in that initial scene as we cut to the opening dance number. But there is a lot more to come on the QUC, and Peacemaker’s role in setting it up — not Auggie.
It Was Peacemaker Who Set Up The Portal To The QUC, Not Auggie

Picking up in the present, A.R.G.U.S. is ready to attack both Peacemaker and Eagly, but luckily, our heroes get a heads up from John Economos (Steve Agee). That leads to a terrified Peacemaker finding the silver imp-case in his closet and making a run for it. And they do escape (though not for lack of trying on the part of Michael Rooker’s Red St. Wild and Nhut Le’s Judomaster), and hop into Adebayo’s (Danielle Brooks) car because Peacemaker needs to… Move the dimensional portal?
“What do you mean you have to move the portal?” Adebayo asks, and thank you Ads for that. Peacemaker explains he needs to transfer the portal from his dad’s house to his grandfather’s shack in the woods, and further explains that the silver case is the device used to make the move.
Not only that, here’s the shocker: Peacemaker is the one who set up the QUC portal, not Auggie. As he explains, he did it twice as a kid, “once when we found it in the woods to my dad’s trailer.” The second time was from the trailer to his father’s house, and Peacemaker further elaborates that he and his brother, Keith, were in charge of the move because Auggie was “afraid it was dangerous.”
“Your dad didn’t make the portal?” Adebayo asks.
“No way,” says Peacemaker, scoffing.
“I thought he was some sort of super genius,” she continues.
“You f**king kidding, he flunked out of tenth grade,” Peacemaker says.
There’s another surprise, though, as Adebayo asks, “So, how’d he make all them helmets and stuff?”
“It’s… Complicated,” Peacemaker says, and then an incoming call from Economos stops him from saying more. But it sure seems likely Auggie didn’t make those either, right?
Regardless, in case there was any confusion, Peacemaker does indeed use the silver case to switch the portal door from where A.R.G.U.S. is breaking in to the shack, causing an explosive chain reaction that knocks him and Adebayo backwards.
So, what does this mean for the show going forward? Well, we now know that some other creatures from the QUC — likely, but not confirmed to be imps — created the portal doorway. We also know that Peacemaker knows how to set it up. And in the closing moments, Red St. Wild tracks Eagly to the shack, so he at least is headed their way. Beyond that? Seems like there’s a lot more to find out about these 99 dimensions, and what they connect to. Stay tuned…
