The Lion King Heads To Comics:
Dynamite is continuing to expand its Disney comics lion — sorry, line — this November with The Lion King, a new book from writer and artist Edwin Galmon.
The new book is set during the time period when Simba is still a lion cub, and Mufasa hasn’t been trampled to death. In the series, per PR, “Audiences will follow the ruler of the Pride Lands and his young heir as they navigate the complex web of relationships across their vast kingdom. Mufasa will teach his son how to defend their home against the forces that threaten their peace and harmony from both outside and within their pack.”
Galmon has previously worked on Lilo & Stitch for the publisher. And this is far from the first time Lion King has been adapted for comics… Not only has Disney published all-ages strips for years, but Dynamite released a Scar series back in 2023, focusing on Simba’s Uncle/enemy.
The Lion King #1 will hit stores on November 12, 2025.
Absolute Zatanna Coming To DC Comics:
The Esrevinu Etulosba is getting a magical upgrade with the introduction of Absolute Zatanna.
Where and when Zatanna will pop up is TBA, but the news comes via a comic book fan on TikTok who asked Absolute Batman writer Scott Snyder about her at DragonCon. Specifically, he asked what Snyder’s pitch for Absolute Zatanna would be, and Snyder answered simply, “Well, she’s going to appear soon in the Absolute Universe… I won’t say where, but yes, she is coming.”
On the same panel, from the same fan’s TikTok account, Snyder also confirmed that nearly every Robin except Damian Wayne will be coming in Absolute Batman — which makes some sense, as Bruce Wayne is still pretty young in the Absolute Universe. And Absolute Scarecrow will be coming in issue #17, after the conclusion of the currently running Bane arc, and a two-parter which will find Absolute Batman meeting Absolute Wonder Woman in issues #15 and #16.
J. Scott Campbell’s Danger Girl Kickstarter Funded In Six Minutes:
The Kickstarter for Act 4’s J. Scott Campbell’s Danger Girl Artist’s Edition launched on September 9 — and was fully funded in six minutes.
The project is the latest Artist’s Edition from the publisher, which presents high-quality scans commensurate with the quality of the original art… In this case, a 12″ x 17″ hardcover containing 150 pages of, per PR, “rare sketches, page breakdowns, and an introduction by J. Scott Campbell.” It’s probably the introduction that put it over the edge, right?
Anyway, the book, if you’re not familiar, focuses on an international adventurer named Abbey Chase, and her all-female secret agent team. It debuted in 1998, and instantly became a hit. The Kickstarter includes a surprise second title, though: the Wildsiderz Artist’s Edition, which collects issues #0 through #2 of the title, as well as pages from the never-before-published third issue.
As of this recording, the Kickstarter has already made over $80,000 on the $40,000 goal, and sold out of at least one level. It’ll be open to pledge until October 8 at 3 pm ET.
