Marvel Finally Releases Mahershala Ali’s ‘Blade’ Movie (In The Massive-Verse)

Great news if you’ve been waiting patiently for Mahershala Ali’s MCU Blade movie since it was announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019: the new Marvel movie is now in theaters! There’s only one teensy-weensy catch, though… You have to be living in Image Comics‘ Massive-Verse.

Spoilers for Radiant Black #37 past this point, but in the latest issue of the series, the main character, Marshall, aka Radiant Black, is headed out on a date with a woman named Mari. They head to an AMC theater in Chicago, and we catch back up with them as they exit the flick.

“You know, all things considered?” Marshall says. “Not too terrible. I can’t believe they finally made it. Well, again. First one still rocks.”

Just in case you’re wondering what he’s referring to, the marquee behind them says “BLADE.” And Mari adds on, “I liked it. You know. For what it was. Mahershala was great.”

There’s not much more about the movie in the issue, as Marshall and Mari walk and talk about their potential next date. Though Marshall does say, “This was awesome. I mean, not as awesome as the dance club scene in the first Blade….”

Which, in that, Marshall is correct: that scene is the height of awesome, as is the rest of the 1998 movie.

As for the real Blade movie, it’s been in various stages of development for years now, even getting as close as making sets and costumes at one point (fun fact: the costumes for that version were used by Sinners). As of now, it’s still in development, though the only appearances of the Ali Blade have been a voiceover in Eternals and voice acting in the upcoming Marvel Zombies. Still, it’s nice to know the movie will be coming out eventually… At least in another universe.
