Jeff Lemire teases secret DC project.

Vertigo returns at New York Comic Con.

This is Comic Book Club News for September 5, 2025.

Absolute Batman Top August 2025 Sales Chart:

DC’s Absolute Batman once again topped the August 2025 sales charts, with issue #11, though Marvel took back a ton of space in the Top 10.

Per ICv2, Absolute Superman #10 came in at number two — but the next nine slots were all Marvel. Two issues of Amazing Spider-Man, One World Under Doom #6, and Fantastic Four #2 rounded out the Top 5. Curiously, only Ultimate Wolverine #8 hit the top 10 from the publisher’s Ultimate line, with Ultimate Spider-Man #20 falling all the way to number 16.

In total, Marvel grabbed 32 slots, while DC snagged 12. Versus Ultimate at Marvel, the top six DC titles were all from the Absolute Universe, with the others comprising four Batman books, one Justice League book featuring Batman, and Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum #1, which also features Batman.

Image Comics grabbed four of the six remaining slots for the latest issues of Transformers, Invincible Universe Battle Beast, Exquisite Corpses, and G.I. Joe. And BOOM! Studios grabbed the other two for Something is Killing the Children, and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III.

Jeff Lemire Teases Secret DC Project:

Jeff Lemire is a busy guy. Amongst all his other ongoing work, and plans to continue on DC’s JSA at least for another year, he’s also teasing another DC project coming in 2026.

The news comes via Lemire’s newsletter, where he shares an unlettered page from the book, and explains that he will be writing, Rafael De Latorre is providing art, and colors are by Marcelo Maiolo, who Lemire previously worked with on Green Arrow.

As for what the book is? The art shows a woman with red hair in a leather jacket on a military plane, with two soldiers handing her a tablet to look at. The wild guesses online range from Absolute Joker, to Absolute Hawkman and Hawkgirl, to — given the red hair and military background, a Kate Kane/Batwoman book, or possibly a spy-focused Checkmate series.

Whatever it is, we may find out more next month at New York Comic Con.

DC’s Vertigo Imprint Returns At New York Comic Con 2025:

First announced at last year’s New York Comic Con, DC’s storied Vertigo imprint is back. But since the initial announcement, and the rebranding of the sporadically released Nice House By The Lake, we haven’t heard much more about the rejuvenated creator-owned line.

That’s all about to change at this year’s upcoming New York Comic Con, as a panel originally titled “DC Black Label, and Beyond!” is now titled “DC Vertigo: We’re Back!”

So, what can you expect from the panel? Not much, yet, though DC Executive Editor Chris Conroy will be on hand to announce the new ongoing slate, alongside, “A series of special guests will have exclusive announcements, reveals, and surprises in store, as DC Vertigo reclaims its title as the home for comics which refuse to fit the mold.”

The panel will be held on Thursday, October 9 at 12:30pm, right at the start of the convention, and is likely to be a hot ticket. We’ll have more on this as it develops.
