After the latest episode of Peacemaker, titled “Another Rick Up My Sleeve,” there’s one pressing question on the minds of fans of the show: does Eagly die in Peacemaker?
Spoilers past this point, but after decimating Langston Fleury’s (Tim Meadows) team in Episode 2, thanks in part to the A.R.G.U.S. agent’s crippling bird blindness, the government organization has put together a crack team of operatives to take down both Peacemaker (John Cena) and his fine-feathered friend.
Not only that, but they’ve recruited Red St. Wild (Michael Rooker), a probably racist caricature who is an expert in hunting and killing eagles. So are Eagly’s days numbered? Is that it for Peacemaker’s best friend (sorry, Vigilante)?
Does Eagly Die In Peacemaker? What We Know:
Does Eagly die? I don’t know, they’ve only aired the third episode of the eight episodes in the season, how would I know what happens next?
Wait, You’re Supposed To Talk About How You Can Figure This Out Based On Evidence Or Whatever
There is no evidence. Did you watch the episode? There are a ton of soldiers, including an elite eagle hunter, about to aim to kill Eagly and capture Peacemaker. It doesn’t look good for either of them, but at least part of the bit of Eagly (the comedy bit, not the beaks and feathers bit) is how he’s probably the strongest character on the show. Also, and I cannot emphasize this enough, but there are another five episodes in the season in which you will discover the answer to this question.
Right, But What About In The Comics? How Does Eagly Die In The DC Comics Source Material?
There is none. Eagly is an original character for the Peacemaker TV show. He doesn’t exist in the comics, and was first introduced in Peacemaker Season 1, Episode 1.
That’s Not True, You’re Lying To Me
Okay, fine, so there is an Eagly comic currently running right now. It’s titled Peacemaker Presents: The Vigilante/Eagly Double Feature. It’s based on the TV show, but not canonical to the TV show, if that makes sense. Mainly, it doesn’t contradict anything, at least until something happens on TV that makes the events of the book null and void.
Furthermore, despite not exactly being in canon, it does take place between Seasons 1 and 2 of the series. Since you’ve already started watching Season 2, you likely know that Eagly is alive in Season 2. So also, Eagly does not die in the aforementioned comic book.
What About Red St. Wild? Does He Kill Any Eagles In DC Comics?
Get this: Red St. Wild is also an original character for the TV show. Michael Rooker has appeared in nearly every project James Gunn has created, including several roles already in the DCU… He was Savant in The Suicide Squad (who died in the opening sequence), a friendly guy named Sam Fitzgibbon, who helped out GI Robot (Sean Gunn) on Creature Commandos (and then died), and Superman Robot #5 in Superman (who got ripped apart by The Engineer and presumably died).
So there’s no comic source material for Red St. Wild, but given how Gunn likes to use him, it seems far more likely that Red St. Wild will die than Eagly.
Do Birds Die?
Yes, birds die all the time. Just not CGI birds on TV who like to dance in opening sequences. Maybe someday, though.
