‘Bloodshot’ Missing From Valiant November Solicits, After Anti-Trans Controversy

Alien Books has sent out their updated November solicits, i.e. comics coming to stores in the month, along with covers and info. And one series is not listed among the Valiant Beyond titles: Bloodshot, a series that was mired in controversy due to language in the first issue that mirrored anti-trans hate speech, earlier this month.

Written by Mauro Mantella, the release of Bloodshot #1 led to an enormous outcry online, thanks to the “transphobic” language that described parents forcing their children to become vampires “just to feel modern… and believing that they’ll be thankful for it when they grow up.”

While Alien Books, which publishes Valiant titles, quickly released a joint statement with Mantella promising that anti-trans hate speech was “never the intention,” and promising several steps to do better in the future, the situation continued when it surfaced that Mantella had reposted several anti-trans, anti-LGBTQ+, and anti-vaccine memes on X (formerly Twitter). After his X account was taken offline, Mantella went to Instagram and Facebook to post a lengthy apology (which you can read in full here) and explanation for the reposts.

At the current time, Alien has Valiant Beyond: Bloodshot #2 scheduled for September 24, and Mantella (in the explanation linked above) notes that it will continue and expand the “child vampires” storyline. The conclusion of the first story arc in Bloodshot #3 is scheduled for October 22.

A fourth issue, starting a new story arc written by Mantella with art by Rodrigo Rocha, had previously been announced for release on November 26, 2025. Clearly, it won’t be coming out in November; though whether that’s because the title is taking a hiatus, been canceled, or otherwise, is TBD. Comic Book Club reached out to Alien for comment, but did not hear back as of publishing time.

The rebooted, new-reader-friendly line does still include new issues of Tales of the Shadowman, The X-O Manowar, and All-New Harbinger. And of note, Alien seems to be releasing these series in arcs of three. However, by comparison, Tales of the Shadowman is releasing on a near-monthly schedule at least through December, as are the rest, making the omission of Bloodshot all the more glaring.
