The choose-your-own-adventure style graphic novel Star Trek: Lower Decks: Warp Your Own Way has won the 2025 Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story or Comic, as announced last night (August 16) at WorldCon in Seattle.

Per Locus, the book, written by Ryan North with art by Chris Genoglio, beat out five other graphic novels: The Deep Dark by Molly Knox Ostertag from Scholastic Graphix; The Hunger and the Dusk, Vol. 1 by G. Willow Wilson and Chris Wildgoose, also from IDW; Monstress, Vol. 9: The Possessed, by Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda from Image Comics; My Favorite Thing Is Monsters, Book Two, by Emil Ferris from Fantagraphics; and We Called Them Giants, by Kieron Gillen, Stephanie Hans, and Clayton Cowles, also from Image Comics.

Originally published in October of 2024, the 202-page graphic novel focusing on the crew of the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks, as Ensign Mariner, “wants to have a normal day, but no matter what side of the bed she wakes up on, the world is ending. Literally. If she has coffee, Borg attack! If she has raktajino, cue the Romulan boarding party! And in each scenario, Mariner and her friends end up dead, sometimes the ship is destroyed—and the day starts all over again.”

In addition to the win for the graphic novel, the Star Trek: Lower Decks series finale, “The New Next Generation,” won Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form, beating out, among other things, another episode of Lower Decks. Wildly, this is the first time in 30 years that Star Trek has won a Hugo. The last time was “All Good Things,” the series finale of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
