This is Comic Book Club News for August 7, 2025.

Absolute Batman Tops July Comic Book Sales:

Absolute Batman has once again topped the comic book sales charts, this time for July.

Per ICv2, DC’s Absolute Universe overall dominated the list, with five issues placing in the Top 10. The publisher grabbed six in the Top 10 total, including Batman #161, part of the H2SH storyline. And DC Comics snagged 14 slots in the Top 50, including the aforementioned books.

Marvel, however, doubled DC with 28 entries in the Top 50, including the number two slot for Fantastic Four #1, number five for Godzilla Destroys The Marvel Universe #1, and number nine for the return of the Marvel Swimsuit Special.

Image continues to go big with Invincible Universe Battle Beast, with the third issue coming in at number eight on the list. The publisher also grabbed another three slots in the Top 50, for Transformers, G.I. Joe, and Exquisite Corpses.

IDW had a stronger-than-usual showing, with Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees: Rite of Spring #1 ranking at number 20, and Godzilla #1 and the latest issue of TMNT ranking as well.

That left two slots for other publishers: Archie Comics, for the Archie Meets Jay and Silent Bob one-shot, and Bad Idea, for Planet Death #1.

Wes Craig And Friends Bring On Colossal Kaya Special:

Wes Craig’s Kaya is going big and going to your home (once you purchase it at your comic book shop) with Image ComicsColossal Kaya Special.

Said Craig, “I can’t believe the calibre of artists that agreed to work with me on this book. Everyone’s gonna be blown away with what they’ve done. Colossal Kaya is one of the highlights of my career.”

Joining Craig on the issue will be Nathan Fox, James Harren, Mike Huddleston, Declan Shalvey, and Ryan Stegman for 48 pages of “eye-popping pages of breakneck storytelling, bold visuals, and jaw-dropping extras.” The issue will also feature both a wrap-around cover and centerfold by Jim Mahfood, and Image teases that, “There are no plans for this shelf-busting single issue to be collected into trade paperback.”

Don’t know about the post-apocalypse journey of Kaya? That’s okay, the issue will also include a six-page intro to the series, to get you up to speed. Colossal Kaya Special will hit comic book shops on Wednesday, November 12.

J. Scott Campbell’s Danger Girl Heads To Kickstarter:

Act 4 Publishing and Skybound are taking J. Scott Campbell’s Danger Girl Artist’s Edition to Kickstarter. Act 4’s Scott Dunbier will curate the collection — and not only that, Dunbier was the editor on Danger Girl during the original run, so he knows a little something about the book.

Said Campbell, “Having been a big admirer of Scott Dunbier’s stunning Artist’s Editions for many years, I didn’t think there would ever be an opportunity to offer my past work in this sort of volume. I am elated that we’ve been able to gather so many amazing scans from numerous collectors to provide fans and art appreciators with this fantastic collection.”

But what can one expect from the book? Well, I’ll tell you. J. Scott Campbell’s Danger Girl Artist’s Edition will collect 150 pages of comics, model sheets, illustrations, flip book art and more, and all presented in a 12″ by 17″ format. In addition, per the Artist’s Edition format, each of the pages has been scanned from the original artwork at full size, so it’s the closest thing to holding Campbell’s art in your hands.

The Kickstarter exclusive edition will also offer additional rewards, per PR: “a Kickstarter-exclusive slipcase that houses both books, signed bookplates, prints, shirts, stickers, pins, and more.”

The campaign will be live from September 9, through Wednesday October 8.
