Gabriel Hardman tackles DC team-up.

Comic Book Club nominated for two podcast awards.

This is Comic Book Club News for August 6, 2025.

Maleficent Returns From Dynamite:

Maleficent is returning to Dynamite for a second series, but in a twist worthy of the Disney baddie, writer/artist Soo Lee won’t be returning. Instead, we’ll get the also pretty good writer/artist team of Paulina Ganucheau and Theo Stultz.

While the first series presented escalating done-in-one adventures as increasingly powerful antagonists invaded Maleficent’s woods, it seems like this time around, we’ll be getting a more serialized story. Per PR, “This moody new adventure follows the power-hungry regent as she seeks to fortify her dark powers. Maleficent’s plan is to reinforce her arsenal of magical energy to the point of making herself invulnerable to any threats to her reign.

“As she sets out on this nightmarish goal, her goblin minions return from a raid bearing a mysterious glowing grimoire. Between its covers is contained a force that could deliver to the queen an overflowing wellspring of nearly unlimited power. But to fully possess this dark power and harness it, Maleficent must leave the safety of her kingdom and venture into an unfamiliar and dangerous realm — from which few have ever returned in one piece!”

Ganucheau and Stultz will provide covers for the series, alongside Ellery Santos and Robert Quinn. The new volume of Maleficent will debut in October.

Gabriel Hardman To Team Up Batman, Green Arrow, Question:

Writer and artist Gabriel Hardman is bringing back the hard-boiled, ’80s thriller with DC’s new four-issue Black Label series, Batman/Green Arrow/The Question: Arcadia. And while Hardman is, of course, aware of the classic team-up of the characters by Denny O’Neill and Denys Cowan, he’s taking his own approach.

Said Hardman, “I’ve wanted to tell a story about Batman, Green Arrow and the Question since I was 14 years old and I couldn’t be more excited to finally get the chance. While I’m taking inspiration from the great work of Denny O’Neil, Denys Cowan and Mike Grell, this series isn’t an exercise in nostalgia. I’m taking the grounded approach they spearheaded in the late 80s and moving forward, having these three difficult, opinionated personalities confront a contemporary brand of criminality on a global scale.”

In the story, while Bruce Wayne cozies up to a billionaire climate visionary, Batman, Green Arrow and The Question all begin to look into the, per PR, “true purpose of Arcadia—an ocean-sailing city, climate-hardened against weather extremes, being constructed off the coast of Greenland.”

Batman/Green Arrow/The Question: Arcadia #1 hits stores on November 26, 2025, with a main cover by Hardman and variant covers from Kevin Nowlan and Denys Cowan & Bill Sienkiewicz. The latter was previously released as a poster promoting the “Fables” crossover between Detective Comics Annual #1, Green Arrow Annual #1, and The Question Annual #1.

In addition, the hardcover collection of Batman/Green Arrow/The Question: Arcadia will hit shelves on June 16, 2026, for $24.99.

Comic Book Club Nominated For Two Podcast Awards:

And now, some self-serving news: Comic Book Club has been nominated in two categories at this year’s Podcast Awards. Comic Book Club’s live show has been nominated in the Comedy category, and Comic Book Club News — that would be the podcast you’re listening to right now — has been nominated in the Arts category.

Per the Awards, voting is open to 25,000 random weighted listeners who previously nominated shows for the awards, and 500 random podcasters. The voting period will last until September 1, with winners announced on September 28.

Congrats to all our fellow nominees, and good luck!
