7 Best Marvel And DC Crossovers To Read While You Wait For ‘Deadpool/Batman’

JLA Avengers

Decades after their last crossover, Marvel and DC are working together to launch Deadpool/Batman, a collaboration we never expected but always wanted! The characters will clash when the Merc with a Mouth blasts through Gotham City during a job. Even better than that, we’ll get additional backup stories featuring more exciting team-ups.

Throughout the years, fans have always wanted to see their favorite characters from both publishers working together (or fighting together), and the time has finally come. However, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen such a project, as the companies have a long history of collaborating. So, here are some of the best Marvel and DC crossovers to read while you wait for Deadpool/Batman.

1. Superman vs The Amazing Spider-Man

Superman vs Amazing Spider Man Page 2

Writer: Gerry Conway

Artist: Dick Giordano, Ross Andru

Gerry Conway has a good track record with both characters, so his voice for them is pitch-perfect. Seeing two of the greatest superheroes working together is incredible, but the comic does more than that. With the Lex and Doc Ock duo, and MJ and Lois interacting, we can see the two universes together.

2. Darkseid vs Galactus: The Hunger

Darkseid vs Galactus: The Hunger

Writer: John Byrne

Artist: John Byrne

The only thing better than two big villains teaming up is watching them go all out against each other. And the Silver Surfer causes one of the greatest fights in the universe when he sees Apokolips fit for Galactus’ consumption.

3. Batman vs The Incredible Hulk

Batman vs The Incredible Hulk

Writer: Len Wein

Artist: Dick Giordano, José Luis García-López

The Hulk isn’t the first character most people would think of pitting against Batman, but it’s surprising how well this works. Both characters are great, and their worlds are combined fittingly.

4. Uncanny X-Men and The New Teen Titans

Uncanny X-Men and The New Teen Titans

Writer: Chris Claremont

Artist: Walt Simonson

Darkseid wants the power of the Phoenix for himself, which results in a team-up between the X-Men and the Teen Titans. Simonson’s art is incredible, and Claremont, with all his expertise, gives every character a distinct and charismatic voice.

5. JLA/Avengers

JLA/Avengers

Writer: Kurt Busiek

Artist: George Pérez

Thankfully, the biggest crossover ever doesn’t disappoint. JLA/Avengers is a chaotic and fun story that puts almost every DC/Marvel hero you can imagine (believe us, even Mr. Immortal is there) to work together. The roster for the final fight is great, and the character dynamics work perfectly.

6. Batman/Captain America

Batman Captain America

Writer: John Byrne

Artist: John Byrne

Have you ever wondered where the Joker “American criminal lunatic” panel was from? Now, you know! Byrne creates another fun and campy crossover following Batman and Captain America meeting in the ’40s during WW2.

7. Amalgam Comics

Spider-Boy #1 Facsimile Edition

Writer: Various writers (Barbara Randall Kesel, Ron Marz, Karl Kesel, etc.)

Artist: Various artists (Karl Kesel, Dave Gibbons, Dan Jurgens, etc)

The Amalgam Universe fuses Marvel and DC characters together, creating heroes as Spider-boy (Spider-Man/Superboy) and Amazon (Wonder Woman/Storm). The quality varies a lot, but every issue is such an odd and unique work that it’s worth checking out.
