This is Comic Book Club News for July 31, 2025.

Marvel Ends 2099 Line:

We’re 74 years away from 2099, but Marvel Comics is taking no chances: they’re ending the 2099 line of comics, and jumping ahead to 3099.

Per ICv2, writer Steve Orlando, who has been shepherding the universe for the past few years, will end things for the titles, and then launch a new series, Spider-Man 3099, with art by Ibraim Roberson.

Marvel Comics VP of Print and Digital Publishing David Gabriel announced the news at San Diego Comic-Con, adding that, “They’re also introducing a new character called the Abyssus, who is a combination of Knull and Galactus.”

Marvel’s 2099 line was developed by Stan Lee and John Byrne, and launched in 1992 with Doom 2099, Punisher 2099, Spider-Man 2099, and an original character, Ravage 2099. It’s expanded since then to include other future variants of Marvel characters, though arguably only Spider-Man 2099 has had staying power. We’ll see what the future holds when 2099 The End occurs, likely some time in 2026.

DC Finest Line Adds Three Titles:

The DC Finest line is adding three titles to its lineup: Deadman, Wonder Woman, and The Joker.

The DC Finest line is a series of full-color paperbacks that collect classic runs.

In this case, Deadman: How Many Times Can a Guy Die? brings together Silver and Bronze Age comics, including runs from Strange Adventures, Aquaman, The Forever People, and more, all focusing on Boston Brand, aka Deadman. Wonder Woman: Enter the Cheetah jumps further back in time to collect Wonder Woman #5-#9 and other books, all published between 1943 and 1944, featuring villain The Cheetah.

There aren’t many details on The Joker: The Last Ha Ha, but it will collect stories by Gardner Fox, Denny O’Neil, and David Reed.

Per 13th Dimension, the three volumes will hit in early 2026, run over 500 pages, and cost $39.99.

Robert Kirkman’s Capes Returns:

The Invincible Universe is expanding once again, as Robert Kirkman has announced that Capes, his long-out-of-print superhero series, is getting remastered editions from Skybound. And not only that, it’s coming back for new issues, as well.

Co-created with artist Mark Englert, Capes focuses on a group of heroes for hire who work 9-to-5 jobs as superheroes. Set in the Invincible Universe, the series was first released 20 years ago, and the new editions will feature new art and dialogue from Kirkman and Englert.

Following the release of the remasters, Benito Cereno will take over writing duties on Capes, alongside Englert. And they’ll be continuing the original series’s numbering with Capes #7.

The remastered Capes #1 hits stores on November 19, 2025, with issues presumably releasing monthly from there, leading up to the release of Capes #7.
