This is Comic Book Club News for July 30, 2025.

Marvel’s 1776 Sends Captain America Back In Time:

In a series announcement that might make you invoke the immortal words of Ivan Drago — “if he dies, he dies” — Captain America is traveling back in time to save the good ol’ US of A in the new Marvel series 1776.

Written by J. Michael Straczynski with art by Ron Lim and Sean Damien Hill, the five-issue series will debut as part of Marvel’s ongoing celebrations of the 250th anniversary of America next year, which also include a variant cover of various Marvel heroes trying to murder Paul Revere.

In the new comic, a bunch of all caucasian heroes head back in time to save the Founding Fathers from a threat to the past.

As AIPT notes, this is far from the first time Marvel has sent heroes back to the Revolutionary War period. Previous misadventures at the dawn of America include 1976’s Captain America: Bicentennial Battles, which teamed up Cap with Ben Franklin, presumably to take down a killer kite. And Giant-Size Fantastic Four #2, where Skrulls pretended to be Thomas Jefferson. Does that explain the whole being a “rapist and slave owner” thing? I haven’t read the issue, but I’m guessing they may have avoided that particular topic.

Anyway, 1776 #1 hits stores on November 5, 2025, and you can cross your fingers that the bad guys win this one.

Captain America Takes On Aliens In New Series:

Looks like Captain America is going to have a few harsh words for those xenomorphs, as Marvel has announced Alien Vs. Captain America.

Written by Frank Tieri, with art by Stefano Raffaele, the big question given the series is set during World War II is if a face-hugger will jump on Hitler’s face and then a chestburster will come out of Hitler and the resulting xenomorph will take on the main characteristics of Hitler, aka, being a “just okay” artist.

Said Tieri, “Now I pitched this knowing I wanted it to be a period piece with WW2 as the backdrop because I knew it would give me so many fun elements to play with… Cap vs the Red Skull, Baron Strucker in the Himalayas looking for Attilan, Bucky interacting with the Howling commandos, Hydra using the Xenomorphs as weapons, etc. We’ve got all that in the and more as fans can expect a nice mix of horror and heroics… and more than a few surprises thrown in for good measure.”

A few surprises, hm? Like… XenoHitler? I guess we’ll find out when Alien vs. Captain America #1 hits stores on November 5, 2025.

Pledge The Comic Book Club Patreon:

Hey, real quick, in some non-Captain America-related news: can we have $2,700? Or more reasonably, now is a great time to support the Comic Book Club Patreon at patreon.com/comicbookclub.

While we get incredible support from our Patreon pledgers year-round, on August 11, we’re going to be hit with a huge bill from our hosting service, which pops up once every two years. This year? It’s $2,700, which is, uh, a lot of money. So we’re hoping to defray some of that cost with new Patreon supporters.

The good news is that every bit helps, and support levels start at $2/month, or even less if you pledge a full year in advance — you essentially get two months free. In exchange you get access to our Patreon Discord, our back catalog of podcasts going back to 2011, this very news podcast, often as much as a day early, and without ads, and then I won’t have to sell my kidneys.

Support if you can, and if you already do? Thank you!
