They say the perfect Father’s Day present doesn’t exist, but then they’ve never seen the oversized Deluxe Editions of Oldboy being put out by Dark Horse Manga.
Perfect for daddies, daughters, or honestly, whoever, the classic series by writer Garon Tsuchiya and artist Nobuaki Minegishi will be collected in two new volumes: Oldboy Deluxe Edition: Book One and Book Two. Dark Horse’s translations previously won the 2007 Eisner Award for Best U.S. Edition of International Material, and are lettered by Michael David Thomas and Kathryn Renta, and translated by Kumar Sivasubramanian.
The first book will collect — or “trap” if you will, for unknown reasons — the original four volumes, while the second book will collect volumes five through eight. The new printings will be packaged together in, per PR, a “sleek, deluxe hardcover format and features a new, noir-inspired cover made with metallic silver foil paper, and includes a ribbon bookmarker.”
Oldboy Deluxe Edition: Book One is 848 pages, 7″ x 10″, and will hit bookstores on January 6, 2026, and January 7, 2026, for $69.99. Oldboy Deluxe Edition: Book Two is March 24, 2026, in bookstores, and March 25, 2026, in comic book stores. Father’s Day is June 21, 2026. Just for reference purposes.
Check out the synopses and full covers, below:
In Oldboy Deluxe Edition: Book One:
Ten years ago, they took him. He doesn’t know who. For ten years, he has been confined to a private prison. He doesn’t know why. For ten years, his only contact with the outside world has been a television set and the voices of his jailers. Suddenly, one day, his incarceration ends without explanation. Sedated and dumped in a park, Shinichi Goto awakens—free to reclaim what’s left of his life—and what’s left is revenge. Collects volumes 1-4.
Then, in Oldboy Deluxe Edition: Book Two:
Goto relentlessly marches forward to uncover the identity of the man who imprisoned him for ten years—seemingly for no reason. But Goto’s nemesis has lured him into a trap. Is allowing Goto the opportunity to enact his revenge just another part of his twisted plan? As he struggles to find the motive behind the punishment he endured, Goto receives clues suggesting a connection to a time long forgotten from his adolescence. Could all his torment have been the result of a schoolyard grudge? The cruel game has only just begun. Collects volumes 5-8.
