Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar Games and head writer and creative director of Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption is ready to commit more crimes with Dark Horse Comics, thanks to the upcoming series American Caper.
“American Caper is based on my lifelong fascination with hypocrites, sociopaths, political idiots, dysfunctional families, and violence,” Houser said via press release. “Dark, morally ambiguous, very vulgar and, we hope, funny, American Caper is a comic for the confusing world in which we live right now.”
Alongside Houser, the book also boasts Grand Theft Auto veteran Lazlow, who is contributing “additional writing” for the series. And art will be by David Lapham, with finishes by Chris Anderson, colors by Lee Loughridge, and letters by Nate Piekos.
But what, you may ask, is it about? Two neighbors, a “Mormon hitman and a gambling addict lawyer,” get caught up in a real estate gone wrong. Into the mix enter “a Mexican beauty queen on the run from her past, two escaped convicts in love, a Wall Street billionaire who has become a cowboy, and a maniac hell-bent on revenge.” You know, that old group of so and sos.
American Caper is 12 issues long, with the first issue debuting on November 12, 2025, in comic book shops. It’ll feature covers by Tyler Boss, Simon Bisley, Martin Simmonds, Joe Quinones, and Marguerite Sauvage, which you can check out below.
