Thanksgiving One-Shot Coming To AHOY:
Oh, they ate: Mark Russell and Mauricet are serving up a horror-comedy feast with the upcoming AHOY Comics one-shot, Thanksgiving.
The 48-page issue focuses on a “family dinner gone horribly wrong,” where one family harboring a dark secret involving “the continuing rampage of the mysterious Turkeyneck Killer” binds them together, while tearing them apart.
Said Russell, “Thanksgiving is a black comedy using the most American of holidays as a metaphor for what our nation is in danger of becoming. It tells the story of a nuclear family with many of the same divisions you find within our nation and how deep the rifts between people become while we aren’t paying attention. About how a monster lurks in plain sight, but we choose not to see it.”
As you can probably tell, this has nothing to do with the Eli Roth horror movie Thanksgiving. And in fact as AHOY EIC Tom Peyer explains it, “Mark got mad about something big and wrote this story—I think to help process it.”
Thanksgiving #1 is served up in stores on October 22.
Kyle Starks And Piotr Kowalski Team Up For New Horror Series:
Kyle Starks and Piotr Kowalski, who previously worked together on Those Not Afraid, Where Monsters Lie: CULL-DE-SAC, and more, are teaming up once again for the new horror comic miniseries Devil on My Shoulder from Dark Horse Comics.
In the new series, a woman named Tee was “tortured by five men and left for dead.” She’s not dead, of course, and is going to get revenge on all of them in the bloodiest way possible. But unlike most revenge tales, this one will take her down “a strange and violent supernatural path of payback through bizarre encounters with ex-hitmen, sadistic art enthusiasts, and literal devils.”
While Starks is known for his comedy, the writer teases this is “A true Horror Story in the style of the classic Bloody Revenges. This book has terrible people doing terrible things and then suffering terrible consequences. Our villains are awful, do monstrous things and our heroine’s revenge will be equal to what she takes if not worse. Be forewarned, this is not a comedy. This is not humorous. This is a violent and nasty, action-filled book for fans of horror comics.”
Devil on My Shoulder #1 (of 4) hits stores on November 5.
Marvel Teases Two Spider-Mans:
There are Too Many Spider-Mans in upcoming issues of Amazing Spider-Man. As already revealed but further teased by Marvel Comics, it seems like the flagship comic will find Spidey splitting in two: one in NYC; the other in space.
After Spider-Man’s currently running battle with the villain Hellgate, somehow there are two Spider-Mans (Spiders-Man?) in the issues. Amazing Spider-Man #13 by Joe Kelly and Pepe Larraz introduces “Spidey and His Cosmic Friends,” including Rocket Raccoon and the adorable symbiote known as Symbie. But as seen on the cover, there are other folks on this cosmic Spider-Man’s team, which, per PR, “will have a huge impact on Spider-Man and may hold a key to some mysteries that have been brewing!”
Meanwhile, in Amazing Spider-Man #14 by Kelly and Ed McGuinness, it’s back to Earth as we find out who the Goblin Slayer is, and why they’re trying to kill Norman Osborn. Teases Marvel, “With all that Norman has done and could do, SHOULD Spidey stop it?”
Amazing Spider-Man #13 hits on October 1, while issue #14 hits on October 15.
For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. And it worked out great the last time there were two Spider-Mans, so no notes.
