Move over, Scoops Ahoy, it’s time for CHIPS AHOY! to enter the Upside Down with a special tie-in cookie for Stranger Things‘ final season.
“This isn’t just any product launch – it’s a cultural moment that joins two beloved brands together in an exciting and captivating way,” said CHIPS AHOY! Senior Director, Sabrina Sierant, via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “Our collaboration with Stranger Things appeals to both long-time lovers of CHIPS AHOY! cookies and Stranger Things fans who have loved every episode. Through experiential components and elements of nostalgia, we are delivering unforgettable experiences for different generations of fans – whether they grew up in the 80s or are experiencing that awesome decade through the show.”
And that’s nice and all, but what are the CHIPS AHOY! x Stranger Things Limited-Edition Cookies all about? Inspired by the Upside Down, they’ve got a “chocolatey base, fudge chips and a red strawberry-flavored filling.” They also have holes in them so the red peeks through, just like the Rifts that are the entrance to the Upside Down. And not only that, the packages glow in the dark. Fun!
In addition to the cookies (which you have to eat upside down, one assumes), there’s also a limited edition retro-packaging for the classic CHIPS AHOY! cookies, inspired by the show’s ’80s setting. And in addition, starting on August 11 — when the cookies hit stores — you can scan a QR code to visit an augmented reality game (or get there directly on chipsahoyscan.com) that takes you through different Stranger Things slash cookie-themed levels. Playing has rewards, too: you can win prizes the more you play, including the grand prize, a Stranger Things Eddie Munson-inspired guitar.
