Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang are getting into the Compact Comics game to celebrate 10 years of their Image Comics series Paper Girls, with new “Backpack Editions.” The new printings of the classic will measure 6″x9″, and cost $12.99 each.

“I remain so proud of what my friends and I did with this series,” said Vaughan via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “And these gorgeous ‘Backpack’ editions (check out that rad new cover!) are a great way to introduce this emotional young adult adventure to your loved ones, or to rediscover new details from our twisty time-travel tale for yourself.”

In case you’re not familiar with Paper Girls (or the Prime Video series based on the books), it follows four 12-year-old newspaper delivery girls in 1988 who uncover “the most important story of all time.” The wild, time-bending book jumped genres, while always keeping focused on the coming-of-age story of our protagonists.

Paper Girls Backpack Edition Volume One will collect the first 10 issues of the series, and will hit stores on October 29, 2025. Meanwhile, Paper Girls Backpack Edition Volume Two will hit in 2026, and more to come. In addition, per PR from Image, “Vaughan will appear at San Diego Comic-Con next week on Saturday, July 26 from 10 – 11 a.m. for a Spotlight panel in Room 28DE where he will share details about his new original graphic novel with Niko Henrichon, Spectators, revelations concerning his ongoing series with Fiona Staples, Saga, and more. He will also be signing at the Image booth #1915.”
