Local Comic Shop Day Returns In September:

Free Comic Book Day may turn out to be a goner, but Local Comic Shop Day is back this September.

Per ICv2, after a low-key 2024, ComicsPRO is bringing the event back with a focus on in-store community as a theme.

So, what is Local Comic Shop Day? Well, it’s not free, like Free Comic Book Day. Instead, participating publishers will provide fun exclusives like variants, limited-edition items, discounts, and more, all provided to Local Comic Shop Day stores. Some of this will be given away free, while others will be meant to spur foot traffic to stores on a Saturday, a day not typically as big as Wednesday for comic shops.

More news on the event will be shared as publishers are locked up by June and stores by July. Local Comic Shop Day will be held on September 27, 2025.

The Thing Takes On The Marvel Universe In Marvel All-On-One:

Can’t get enough of the ever lovin’ blue-eyed Thing? Well get ready to peep a whole lot of more of him with Marvel All-On-One, a one-shot written by Ryan North with art by Ed McGuinness which will be told in all splash pages, and double-page splashes.

Said North, “So, Ed McGuinness is a modern legend, and working with him is obviously going to be a thrill. BUT – working with him on an issue that’s so big, explosive, and clobber-filled that it HAS to be told in JUST splash pages and double-page spreads, well, that’s literally a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Every single page is an artist’s showcase, but it’s ALSO the biggest Thing story I’ve ever told, and has a ton of VERY fun battles. And heart too? Moments of recognition and self-discovery? It was a joy to write, one that’s only been surpassed every day as I see the new joys of Ed bringing each page to spectacular life.”

In the issue, The Thing returns from a solo mission only to discover the entire world has for some reason turned against him. Now he has to figure out why, and clobber everyone in the process.

Marvel All-On-One #1 hits stores on August 20.

Diamond Bankruptcy Updates:

Things have been quieter this past week on the Diamond bankruptcy front, versus the wild previous few weeks. But there’s still some news, so let’s get to it.

First up, while it seems that Diamond Comics Distributors will likely have most of its assets sold to Ad Populum and Alliance Entertainment, the company is looking to extend the bankruptcy case for an additional 120 days, ending on September 11. The reasoning is that there’s still a lot of the business to wind down, as well as debts to be paid, so they need the extra time to complete that part of the process.

One potential complication point? Diamond has lost over $2 million in the last two months. While the company had a net worth of $2.5 million at the end of January, by the end of March it was worth $269,300. This is likely due to the lengthy and costly bankruptcy process itself, but also complicates the whole “paying people back” thing because, uh, they don’t have the money.

How will this all end? I guess we may still have a few months to find out.

For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. And by this rate, I should be able to buy Diamond myself in another month or two.
