‘Ghostbusters: Dead Man’s Chest’ Will Make You Say “I Ain’t Afraid Of No… Pirates?”

What’s more terrifying than ghosts? How about pirate ghosts? Because that’s exactly what the Ghostbusters will be dealing with in the brand new comic book series, Ghostbusters: Dead Man’s Chest.

Written by David M. Booher with art by Aviv Or, and letters by Jimmy Betancourt of Comicraft, the four issue Dark Horse Comics series will take place between the events of Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.

“It’s wonderful to be branching out the Ghostbusters stories to reach a broader audience,” said editor Jenny Bingham-Blenk via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “Working with David, Aviv, Cris, Jimmy, and the team at Ghost Corps has been a fun collaboration that will invite readers of all ages to dive deeper into Ghostbusters.”

In the book, the Ghostbusters are dealing with their new fame in different ways. Trevor is planning a “friendiversary” celebration for him and Lucky, Phoebe makes a new friend, and then the ghost of Captain Kidd attacks. Do pirates have friends? We’ll find out together!

Adds Booher, “When I researched ghostly happenings in New York City, I came across the true story of Captain Kidd. He owned a house near Wall Street with his family. Turns out, historians are divided on whether he was the fearsome pirate we know or actually framed for piracy. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to bring him back to ask him ourselves. What could be more fun than having our Ghostbusters stop an angry Captain Kidd from turning Manhattan into a 17th century ghost pirate den?”

Ghostbusters: Dead Man’s Chest will feature a cover by Tyler Crook, and a variant by Max Sarin. It hits stores on May 21, 2025, but you can check out two pages and the covers, below.
