I honestly don’t know that Bob Layton ever said “I’ll be back.” But whether he did or did not, the legendary artist has gone back to the drawing board for a new cover for Dynamite‘s Terminator #2.
Written by Declan Shalvery, the new series finds Skynet sending Terminators throughout history to eliminate “resistance fighters, their ancestors and allies, across the globe and the timestream,” per PR provided to Comic Book Club. And with over 61,000 copies sold of Terminator #1, it’s also a hit.
With Final Order Cutoff (FOC) approaching for Terminator #2, Dynamite is releasing the first look at Bob Layton’s cover, as well as his pencil and ink art pre-colors.

Given Layton is most closely associated with his work for Marvel on Iron Man, this seems to be a natural fit.
In Terminator #2, the focus turns to Saigon in 1975, as “an unexpected formidable enemy force sets its sights on soldiers. The war is winding down and the American forces are retreating. One unlucky G.I. is enjoying his final leave in the South Vietnamese capital. But everything goes awry when he’s urgently recalled to the front. Private Duggan will face off with an enemy that doesn’t operate like any Viet Cong or NVA unit he’s come across. Rumors quickly spread about this ‘one-man platoon’ impervious to bullets and grenades, undeterred by fear or hesitation — seemingly inhuman.”
So is Private Duggan related to comic book writer Gerry Duggan? Is the Terminator trying to erase him from the timeline? Hope not, his run on Deadpool was pretty great.
The Terminator #2 will be in stores November 13, and FOC is September 23. You can check out additional covers, below.
