Way back in the days of San Diego Comic-Con, Dynamite revealed it was publishing a new comic book based on The Herculoids, as part of their growing line of comics working with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products. And now we know the creative team on the book: Tom Sniegoski and Craig Rousseau.
“I can honestly say that getting the chance to write The Herculoids series for Dynamite is one of the highlights of my comics career,” said Sniegoski via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “Having the opportunity to get into the minds of these characters has been a real challenge, but also incredibly fun. Who wouldn’t want to write a giant rock ape?! And equally exciting is seeing what artist Craig Rousseau is doing with my scripts. I think there are going to be some very pleased Herculoids fans out there when they see his art.”
Added Rousseau, “The Herculoids is one of those dream gigs that comes along so rarely, I couldn’t jump fast enough to say ‘YES!’ to drawing Zandor, Tara, Dorno, Igoo, Tundro, Zok, Gleep and Gloop! I grew up with the cartoon and can’t wait to tell their continuing stores with one of my favorite creative partners, Tom Sniegoski.”
Based on the Hanna-Barbera cartoon of the same name, Herculoids pairs up a space barbarian family, with their weird pets — the Herculoids of the title. Per PR from Dynamite, “The crew is composed of father and leader Zandor, his wife Tara, and son Dorno team up with Zok the laser-shooting dragon, Igoo the rock ape, Tundro the rhinoceros, and the shape-shifting Gloop and Gleep.” Will Gloop and Gleep cross over with Space Ghost and team up with Blip? TBD.
The series won’t hit stores until February 2025, but you can check out covers by Francesco Mattina, Dan Panosian, Bjorn Barends, Joseph Michael Linsner, and Mike Mignola below, as well as some development art by Rousseau.
