Top 11 Image Comics For July 2024

Best Image Comics July 2024

Image Comics for July 2024 are all about big, returning books. You’ve got Saga, of course, but Chip Zdarsky’s hit Public Domain expands, Witchblade returns, and much more.

Of note, we didn’t include any of the many Energon Universe titles on the list below. That’s not because they’re not anticipated. They are. Transformers, Destro, Void Rivals, and Scarlett are all at the top of the charts, leading into the upcoming G.I. Joe #1. But we had to make room somehow, just know we know they’re not on there, and let’s move on.

With that in mind, other than Energon Universe books, let’s highlight 11 must-buy books from Image for July, 2024, presented in chronological release order.

1. All The Things We Didn’t Do Last Night

All The Things we Didn't Do Last Night cover

Release Date: July 3, 2024

This lovely, sexy, and very fun crime romance from Maria Llovet pairs together an assassin and a thief as they flirt, develop alibis, and maybe lead to a few murders. It’s like if Batman and Catwoman were actually bad.

2. The Last Mermaid #5

The Last Mermaid #5 cover

Release Date: July 3, 2024

Derek Kirk Kim’s stunning apocalyptic fantasy series has been slowly building up the world outside our titular mermaid’s mech suit/aquarium. And now we’re gonna get to meet some bad guys, it seems.

3. Radiant Black #29 / Radiant Black #29.5

Radiant Black #29 cover

Release Date: July 3, 2024

The Catalyst War continues as Radiant Black explores two different versions of the same events through the eyes of our main characters, Nathan and Mitchell. It’s a bold experiment that, thus far, is paying off with some enormously powerful emotional moments.

4. Public Domain #6

Public Domain #6 cover

Release Date: July 3, 2024

Chip Zdarsky’s exploration of a family’s struggle to retain the rights to their most famous comic book character continues. Extremely inside baseball, but who wants to watch outside baseball, anyway? The “franchise” expands this month, too, with The Domain, a five-issue miniseries that depicts the comic in the comic, from artist Rachael Stott. That latter title hits on July 10, 2024.

5. Local Man #11 and #12

Local Man #11 cover

Release Date: July 3, 2024

Local Man, maybe the best damn superhero comic on the stands right now, double ships this month. This is great news for me, the Local Man enjoyer. The first issue features Dan Quayle, the second issue does not, and ships on July 24, 2024.

6. Precious Metal #2

Precious Metal #2 cover

Release Date: July 10, 2024

The Little Bird prequel continues, and it’s as transgressive in its storytelling and stunning in its art as the original series. Do not miss it.

7. Ice Cream Man #40

Ice Cream Man #40 cover

Release Date: July 10, 2024

After releasing an as-usual harrowing as-heck issue last month showing what happens to a family as they die in a car crash, but actually serving as a deconstruction of decompressed storytelling, we now get to see the other side of the car crash, from the truck driver’s perspective. YIKES.

8. Fishflies #7

Fishflies #7 cover

Release Date: July 17, 2024

The best book the always reliable Jeff Lemire has done in a while comes to a close, as the story of a snotty-nosed kid and her giant bug friend hopefully unravels all of its mysteries in a satisfying fashion.

9. Witchblade #1

Witchblade #1 cover

Release Date: July 17, 2024

Top Cow returns to Witchblade with a take that’s probably best described as Ultimate Witchblade. If you’ve never read the book before, and have no idea who Sara Pezzini is or what a Witchblade is – you’re good to go. If you’re a long-time fan? There are plenty of Easter eggs here, too.

10. The Six Fingers #5

The Six Fingers #5 cover

Release Date: July 24, 2024

Dan Watters and Ram V’s twin miniseries end with this issue. And after the huge revelations of The One Hand #5, it’ll be interesting to see how things pan out on the other side of the equation.

11. Saga #67

saga #67 cover

Release Date: July 31, 2024

Saga returns — again — with Hazel now 12 years old. Also there’s some sort of dolphin thing, I don’t know what’s going on there.
