It’s a big month for DC Comics, and that’s not just because of the titles being released. It’s because DC Comics in July 2024 are finally going back to a Wednesday release schedule, after shifting back in 2020. Cue the airhorns and whatnot.
So that means you Wednesday Warriors are back in business. And to that end, we’ve picked out 11 of our most anticipated DC Comics releases coming out on Wednesdays this July. That includes a slew of Absolute Power, a smattering of your iconic characters like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, and some unfortunate endings, as well.
Read on for our picks for the top 11 DC Comics being released in July 2024, presented in chronological release order.
1. Absolute Power #1
Release Date: July 3, 2024
DC has been building to this event for years, and now it’s finally here. Amanda Waller takes the powers away from the heroes and villains of the DC Universe, with catastrophic results. I hope she learns some lessons along the way!
2. Batman #150
Release Date: July 3, 2024
Technically an Absolute Power tie-in, this issue seems to be more focused on a small-time crook who discovers Batman’s identity. So perhaps the world will finally know Batman is Bruce Wayne — oops, sorry, spoilers.
3. Action Comics #1067
Release Date: July 10, 2024
Continuing the “Superman Superstars” branding, Gail Simone and Eddy Barrows take over the main story, focusing on a younger Superman stopping an alien invasion. Meanwhile, the backup is by Rainbow Rowell and Cian Tormey, and focused on Lois Lane. That has “must buy” written all over it.
4. Absolute Power: Task Force VII #1
Release Date: July 10, 2024
This spinoff series focuses on specific heroes (and villains) in the DC Universe as they’re attacked by the new Task Force VII, aka a team of Amazo robots who are tracking down the resistance fighters. More of an anthology book with rotating artists and writers, this should make a nice companion to the main series.
5. From The DC Vault: Death In The Family – Robin Lives! #1
Release Date: July 10, 2024
A DC version of Marvel’s What If…? the idea here is “what if comics fans weren’t jerks?” Or, more specifically, what if the phone-in vote to kill Jason Todd back in the day went in the other direction?
6. Dark Knights Of Steel: Allwinter #1
Release Date: July 17, 2024
Despite technically spinning off from the hit series Dark Knights of Steel, which took the DC Universe and thrust it into the Middle Ages, this book comes from a different creative team, and is now under the Elseworlds imprint. But, you know, I can’t be too mad about a book that casts Deathstroke as a vengeful Viking.
7. The Penguin #12
Release Date: July 24, 2024
Tom King and Rafael de LaTorre’s crime epic ends here, and we’ll find out whether Penguin takes control of Gotham again, or not. Probably not. At the very least, we’ll definitely find out what happened after Penguin and Batman were sinking in the Batplane in the first issue.
8. Zatanna: Bring Down The House #2
Release Date: July 24, 2024
This absolutely gorgeous Black Label series continues telling the tale of a less experienced Zatanna being forced to embrace her magical heritage in Las Vegas, whether she wants to or not. The first issue was stunning, and I can’t wait for issue #2.
9. Blue Beetle #11
Release Date: July 24, 2024
The Blue Beetle title ends prematurely this month, and not only has it been a great run but the series has laudably been released in both English and Spanish. It’s a bummer, but I’m sure Jaime Reyes will be back, sooner or later.
10. Absolute Power: Origins #1
Release Date: July 24, 2024
Full disclosure: I am probably more excited for this book than the main Absolute Power title. John Ridley and Alitha Martinez jump back in time for a three issue series finally telling the definitive origin of Amanda Waller. Given Ridley has been dropping nothing but bangers lately, I can’t wait.
11. The Nice House By The Sea #1
Release Date: July 24, 2024
The highly anticipated sequel to James Tynion IV and Álvaro Martínez Beuno’s horror series finally hits, with a new cast of characters who know they’re in a horrific apocalypse from the start.
