On this week’s episode of The Boys, titled “Beware the Jabberwock, My Son,” we meet a new character named Sameer Shah, played by actor Omid Abtahi. But who is Sameer? Is he from the comic books? And who is Omid Abtahi?
You’re not going to believe this, but all of those questions will be answered in this very article, so read on. Oh, and spoilers past this point.
Who Is Sameer Shah On The Boys?
In the episode, The Boys head to a remote house to try and track down the Supe-killing virus that was first introduced in Gen V. The man who takes them there is none other than Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito), and the house belongs to none other than VP-elect Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit).
Once they arrive, though, they find the lab Neuman has been using to try to amp up the virus to Homelander (Antony Starr) killing level has been wrecked, and the main scientist in charge is missing. That scientist is named Sameer Shah, and as we discover by the end of the episode, he’s not just any ol’ scientist… He’s the father of Zoe Neuman (Olivia Morandin). And as Stan Edgar explains, he deflowered his daughter. Only, he didn’t, as Victoria explains that she was in her twenties and already very deflowered. Point being, Sameer and Victoria may not be married, but they care deeply about each other and are Zoe’s parents.
By the episode’s end, though, Sameer is presumed dead thanks to a severed leg handed to Victoria, after a vicious, Compound V-powered sheep attack. He’s not dead though, his death was faked by Butcher (Karl Urban) and Joe Kessler (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), who kidnapped Sameer so he can make them more of the virus. Yikes!
Is Sameer Shah From The Boys Comics? What Do We Know About What’s Next For Sameer?
I’ll be upfront: we have no idea what’s next for Sameer, because he’s not from the comic books by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. In fact, Victoria isn’t really from the comics, either. There is a character called Vic the Veep, but he’s a drooling idiot installed as Vice President by Vought because they can control everything he does. There’s no real analogue to this storyline in the comics, so live or die we don’t know what’s next for Sameer!
Who Is Omid Abtahi, The Actor Who Plays Sameer Shah On The Boys?
Well first of all: daddy, I love him. Omid Abtahi is a welcome presence whenever he shows up on screen — and if you’ve spent any time watching genre shows, you’ve seen his face in a lot of different places.
Born on July 12, 1979 in Tehran, Iran, Abtahi, he’s been in dozens of roles but is probably best known for playing Penn Pershing on The Mandalorian, aka the scientist working for Werner Herzog experimenting on Grogu. That said, probably his greatest role – in my opinion – is Salim, a cab driver who strikes up a romance with a djinn on American Gods.
Other notable roles include Howard on Fear the Walking Dead, Homes in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, and he was a series regular on Over Ther and Sleeper Cell. He also recently provided the voice of Hawkman for Justice Society: World War II, and was Ahmed on Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.
His only upcoming project is more episodes of The Boys… According to IMDb, he’s slated to appear in two more episodes beyond this one.
