Rise Of The Powers Of X #5 Review:

In the final issue of the series, Jean Grey takes on Enigma, aka the Dominion-sized Mr. Sinister, and Professor X takes on Moira X. And it all ends here as Moira gets free of her mutant powers, while Jean scatters Enigma across the timelines.

“It’s like dropping a science textbook on the desk,” started host Justin Tyler. “This gets into so much wonky, wild stuff, and it’s fantastic.”

Pete LePage, who generally hasn’t been a fan of this whole era, did like the cover, the scene where Jean Grey called on all the X-Men to defeat Enigma, and the fact that Charles Xavier “turns himself in to the cops.” Contrasting that, Tyler noted that it was nice to find out that Xavier “isn’t a maniac,” and in fact had a plan to help save everyone, all along.

Alex Zalben was much more positive, saying, “I really liked this a lot. The only criticism that I have is that it was surprisingly small for the big action that’s going on.” Clarifying, Zalben explained that the one one-on-one battles in the book “feels like this very intimate thing for what should be a big finale.”

That said, he was surprised and pleased by how Gillen got out of both the Moira plot and the Enigma plot, wrapping them up with “a really elegant solution… while leaving it up, potentially, for any of these storylines to pop up in future issues.”
