This adorable-looking book by Jen de Oliveira is “six silly comics” telling the story of Reggie, the titular penguin. It’s the sequel to Reggie: Kid Penguin, so you can check that out too if you want to see where the adventure began.

2. Becoming Who We Are

Release Date: June 4, 2024

Suggested Reading Age: 8-12 years old

This wonderful and affirming anthology turns real interviews with trans adults about their experiences with kids into short comic book stories. Perfect for Pride month, or any month, really, this collection doesn’t shy away from hardship — but it also affirms that trans kids are on the right path to, well, becoming who they are.

3. The Mighty Bite #2: Walrus: Brawl At The Mall

The Mighty Bite #2: Walrus: Brawl At The Mall

Suggested Reading Age: 7-10 years old

4. Julie And The Blue Guitar: American Girl Mysteries Across Time

Julie and the Blue Guitar: American Girl Mysteries Across Time

Release Date: June 25, 2025

The New Adventures of Encanto Vol. 1: Time To Shine

Release Date: June 25, 2024

Suggested Reading Age: 8-12 years old

Speaking of Disney, albeit from a different publisher, Encanto gets its own graphic novel. Having read the preview from this year’s Free Comic Book Day, it’s charming and fun and you’re gonna dig it quite a bit.

7. The Pale Queen

The Pale Queen

Release Date: June 25, 2024

Suggested Reading Age: 8-12 years old

This intriguing and faerie-infused book might be perfect October reading — but hey, it’s coming out in the middle of Summer so why not? The colors look lovely and haunting, and I’m always up for a “mysterious encounter in the woods” type book. Here, a girl named Agatha meets the Lady of the Hills, but the strange Lady may be more than she seems.

8. The New Girl

The New Girl

Release Date: June 4, 2024

Suggested Reading Age: 8-12 years old

Sadly, this is not a graphic novel adaptation of the iconic sitcom. However, it is about a girl named Lia who immigrates from Romania to the US and is based in part on the author’s own experiences. So it should be fun and heartfelt.

This features a flying pancake named Peggy Pancake, an evil breakfast sandwich, and looks adorable. I am both hungry AND intrigued!

A sort of sequel to the graphic novel Just Roll With It, this focuses on a kid named Ty who suddenly finds himself uncomfortable in the water after breaking his arm. Will he get back on the swim team? Drama ensues!
