DC Comics May 2024 kicks off with no less than the Free Comic Book Day release of Absolute Power, their upcoming event that officially kicks off this summer. But there’s a lot more going on this month from Detective Comics comics!
That includes plenty of Batman, of course. But Superman continues the House of Brainiac crossover. There’s a DC Pride special kicking off next month’s festivities. And the Justice League battles Godzilla and Kong for all the marbles.

1. Free Comic Book Day 2024: Absolute Power Special Edition #1
Release Date: May 4, 2024
You’re gonna want to head to the comic book shop on Saturday to pick up this issue from Mark Waid and Mikel Janín, as the Absolute Power event kicks off. Just don’t forget to buy something while you’re there!
2. Batman #147
Release Date: May 7, 2024
The “Dark Prisons” storyline so far has been a certified banger, with Batman trapped with The Joker in a prison of, essentially, his own making. It continues in this issue!
3. The Boy Wonder #1
Release Date: May 7, 2024
Juni Ba writes and draws a Black Label series about Damian Wayne. Sold!
4. Outsiders #7
Release Date: May 14, 2024
Outsiders hasn’t really played coy about being a Planetary reboot, but as of the last issue they officially pulled the lid off the series’ secrets. And now based on the cover, it looks like Elijah Snow himself has returned. Or died.
5. Nightwing #114
Release Date: May 21, 2024
The final arc from Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo begins, and I’m at a loss as to why it isn’t titled “Nightwing Can’t Jump.”
6. Wonder Woman #9
Release Date: May 21, 2024
Speaking of certified bangers, every issue of Wonder Woman gets better, and it was already pretty great to start. This month, Diana and Steve Trevor reunite.
7. Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong #7
Release Date: May 21, 2024
It’s the final issue of this clash of the titans, and it looks like Lex Luthor has control of Mecha-Godzilla, so this should be wild. Also Kong is a Green Lantern, which: yes.
8. Alan Scott: The Green Lantern #6
Release Date: May 21, 2024
Another final issue as Alan Scott battles his ex-boyfriend, the Red Lantern. This series has gone so much harder than it had to, and given how things have rolled out so far, get the tissues ready.
9. Green Arrow #12
Release Date: May 28, 2024
The end of 12 issues of storytelling as Oliver Queen is finally reunited with his family… Only for — if the cover is accurate — someone to shoot his phone with an arrow.
10. Batman: Dark Age #3
Release Date: May 28, 2024
Speaking of mysterious covers, who do you think that blacked-out flying guy with the S-symbol is on the cover here? The world may never know. But we do know this series is excellent, so read it!
11. DC Pride 2024 #1
Release Date: May 28, 2024
This anthology is uniformly excellent, so I expect no less from this year’s edition, which stretches over 104 pages.
