Superman Lost #10 Review:

In the final issue of the series, Superman finally figures out a way to return to the planet he left to die. In the process, we discover exactly what is going on with that Green Lantern baby, whether he cheated on Lois Lane, and the final fate of Superman.

“This series really plays with your emotions,” said host Alex Zalben, “and ends up in a big way that is supposed to be heroic, but it’s kind of heartbreaking.”

Added Justin Tyler, “I really love this book, the idea of getting Superman out there and into a place where he has to change. Superman is such a steadfast hero and character that, to have a book where he really truly has to be different is interesting. I actually wish this was… More of a Black Label or something that went a little harder, where we were able to have Superman actually love someone else. And actually make some of these bigger choices. That would make for a different story. A lot [of the choices] ended up just being like, ‘No, he didn’t do that. And no, she does doesn’t have that. Lois is fine.’ So we didn’t get some of the bigger swings that were set up. But just shouts to this story for giving us those seeds along the way.”

Jumping into spoilers for the book, Zalben explained that his interpretation of events is that the older Superman we encountered through time travel earlier in the series was sent back in time, younger, free of the PTSD he had suffered. Meanwhile, the version of Superman we’ve been following might be lost forever.

“The thing that’s kind of messed up about it is [the book] ends with a panel of Superman and Lois happily flying towards the camera, so to speak,” said Zalben. “That is at odds with the feeling that I got at the end of the issue, so I’m not 100% sure what was meant there… Whether you were supposed to be like, ‘Yay, Superman and Lois together!’ or feel the ironic nature of ‘Superman literally got lost, he left forever.'”
