This is Comic Book Club News for September 25, 2026.

Fiona Staples Gives Saga Update:

When it first debuted in 2012, Saga by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples was the industry standard. But since it went on hiatus in 2018 and returned in 2022, the schedule has been sporadic, with six issues released in 2022, six in 2023, four in 2024, and only two in 2025, with the the last issue published on March 19, 2025.

And now, Staples has gone to Instagram to explain the delay. In fact, the artist takes the full blame for the series “going AWOL,” saying that “I’ve spent the greater part of my career working only on Saga, from my 20s into my 40s.” Partway through that, she started a family, and took on another large project, and found herself “overextended and suffering from burnout that I could not recover from.”

But now, Staples adds that “I’ve been taking concrete steps to better my mental health and make improvements to my workflow.” She’s drawing new issues now and working on getting on a more consistent schedule for the final third of the series. As of this recording, one issue is done, and she has several more scripts from Vaughan.

So there you go! While we don’t know when the next issue will be released, the important part is that Staples is taking care of herself, first.

Artist Joshua Cassara Dead At 46:

Artist Joshua Cassara, one of Marvel’s Stormbreakers, and probably best known for his work on the X-Men’s Krakoa era, has died of heart complications. He was 46 years old, and the news was shared by his wife Martha on Instagram.

Wrote Martha, “You might know him for his celebrated work in comics, but he was also a good man, a wonderful father and husband, my best friend, and the love of my life… He would not have wanted your condolences. He would have wanted your laughter and toasts.”

The outpouring of love for the creator included Jim Lee, who wrote, “Always loved the wit, humor and energy Josh brought into his sketches… What a great source of both escape and inspiration!” And Benjamin Percy, who worked with Cassara on X-Force and Deadpool/Wolverine, wrote a heartfelt remembrance as well, stating, “Josh Cassara and I spoke the same language. The secret language of friends who share a peculiar hard-wiring.”

Our thoughts are with his family in this time.

Miracleman Gets Facsimile Edition:

Miracleman #1 is getting a facsimile edition from Marvel, hot on the heels of the introduction of the character into the mainline Marvel universe.

Per 13th Dimension, this is a reprint a reprint; specifically, Marvel’s 2014 reprint of the original stories by Alan Moore that includes a new cover by Joe Quesada. However, Moore, true to form, is not credited in the book because he didn’t want to be involved… Instead, he’s credited as “the original author,” and in terms of the solicit he’s not credited at all.

Anyway, the 64 page comic, which is written by nobody, will hit stores on December 23, 2026.
