‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ Release Tees Up ‘Doomsday’ With Four New End Credits Scenes

Disney’s Avengers: Endgame Encore is in theaters now, featuring four additional minutes of material — but contrary to what many fans had expected, those minutes aren’t deleted scenes from the Marvel blockbuster. Instead, those who see Endgame in theaters this week will be treated to four new scenes setting up the events of Avengers: Doomsday.

It seems there are battle lines already being drawn, with Loki arriving to recruit Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) to his cause and Doctor Doom getting his hands on the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo).

Maybe more plot-relevant is a scene at the Time Variance Authority, where Loki, Ouroboros (Ke Huy Quan), and Miss Minutes (Tara Strong) discover that the multiverse is collapsing, with two Earths in particular about to collide. Given the cast and what we have seen in the trailers, the most likely scenario is that the “colliding” worlds are the standard MCU and the Fox universe that played home to the pre-Deadpool X-Men characters, but that’s hardly guaranteed. At minimum, we know the Fantastic Four from First Steps will play a key role in the movie, having traveled to the MCU from their world.

In the fourth and final new scene, Marvel builds a bridge between Iron Man and Doctor Doom. If you saw the movie in theaters back in 2019, there were no post-credits scenes, but there was a metallic “clunk” that fans identified as sound design from the first Iron Man movie, when Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) was crafting his initial Iron Man suit in a cave. This time around, they use the same sound design, but Doctor Doom (also Robert Downey, Jr.) is forging his mask.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Doomsday “follows beloved heroes from three distinct universes as they’re set on a deadly collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve ever encountered,” per the film’s official synopsis.

The cast includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Wyatt Russell, Channing Tatum, Simu Liu, Ian McKellen, Tom Hiddleston, James Marsden, Patrick Stewart, Joseph Quinn, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Letitia Wright, Lewis Pullman, Kelsey Grammer, Kathryn Newton, Danny Ramirez, Winston Duke, Alan Cumming, Hannah John-Kamen, Rebecca Romijn, Mabel Cadena, and Tenoch Huerta Mejia.

Avengers: Doomsday will arrive in theaters on December 18.
