As is now becoming par for the course for Marvel, in advance of the TBA premiere date of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2 in January of 2027, Marvel will release a prequel comic bridging the gap between Seasons 1 and 2.
Written by Christos Gage with art by Eric Gapstur (who worked on the first prequel series), the new miniseries will hit in December, a month before Season 2 debuts.
“I’m beyond excited to return to the world of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man!” Gage said via press release. “Just like last time, showrunner Jeff Trammell has been incredibly generous about coordinating in a way that makes our story a firm part of the show’s continuity. Best of all, Eric Gapstur returns on art, and while he was great before, he’s leveled up…wait until you see his work on Spidey, Daredevil, and classic Spider-Man villains finally making their debut here…whoops, spoiler! It’s a real pleasure to be a part of this take on Spidey that combines the feel of the Silver Age with new and exciting characters and situations. I hope I get to do it again next year!”
What will be most interesting about this is how closely it apes the X-Men ’97 comic series, which also started as a prequel for Season 1, but then became crucial expansions of scenes in Season 2 as it continued. Marvel does promise new villians will be introduced in this mini, so… Maybe?
