Tom King And Daniel Sampere End ‘Wonder Woman’ Run With Issue #40

After 40 issues, Tom King and Daniel Sampere are wrapping up their run on DC Comics‘s Wonder Woman with the conclusion of the Wonder War storyline.

Coming in December, the final issue will wrap up the storyline involving a massive battle between Diana, currently evil baby and future monarch The Matriarch, and her “father” The Sovereign (the King of America). Will it wrap it up tighter than a lasso… Wraps things… Tightly? I guess we’ll see!

Here’s the official synopsis, per DC:

The Matriarch and her father, the Sovereign, have gathered a group of violent villains to destroy Wonder Woman and all that she represents. Can Diana and her family stand strong and protect the shores of Themyscira from the ultimate threat? Witness the monumental conclusion of the Wonder War and the historic run by Eisner Award-winning writer Tom King and superstar artist Daniel Sampere!

Now, I am sort of curious as to how they DC reached the “40 issues” number for King and Sampere, because Stephanie Williams popped in for two, two-issue arcs on the series (Wonder Woman #29 and #30, and #35 and #36), both with different artists. King and Sampere did collaborate on a Matriarch Special, but that only gets us to 37 issues for the team. Of note, King also wrote the Trinity spin-off series, but that was with artist Belén Ortega, as well as a story in Wonder Woman: Black and Gold, but that was with Mitch Gerads.

Anyway, whatever, they did a lot of issues and they were very good. Congrats!

Wonder Woman #40 will feature variant covers by David Nakayama, Julian Totino Tedesco, and Jamie Hewlett, and hit stores on December 16, 2026.
