Erik Larsen’s long-running Savage Dragon will get the compendium treatment from Image Comics with a series of massive collections hitting shelves later this year.
Starting with — what else — Savage Dragon Compendium, Vol. 1, the first volume will include The Dragon #1-#5, as well as the first 44 issues of Savage Dragon. The collection will also include two covers, including a variant only available at comic book shops. Take that, book shops! You stink!
You’re probably familiar with Savage Dragon since it’s, per PR from Image, “the longest-running, full-color comic book series to feature a single artist/writer,” but in case not, here’s the synopsis of the first volume:
In this Savage Dragon Compendium, Vol. 1, the earliest adventures of Laren’s idiosyncratic superhero series are collected for the first time into one gigantic volume. Amongst these pages Savage Dragon defends Chicago from Overlord and the Vicious Circle, takes on an all-out gang war, and fights to prevent the destruction of the planet Earth itself!
Dragon goes from cop to corpse and to hell and back—literally! This compilation also features the birth of Dragon’s son, the death and rebirth of Darklord, and Dragon’s ascension to the head of Special Operations Strikeforce. It guest-stars WildC.A.T.s, Spawn, Hellboy, the Maxx, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and even God Himself.
Savage Dragon Compendium, Vol. 1 hits comic book stores on November 18, and bookstores on December 15, 2026. Check out the two covers for the Compendium, below.
