DC Announces New Compact Comics For Spring 2027:
DC Comics has announced a slew of new comics hitting the Compact Comics line next year, kicking things off on January 5 wth Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s Preacher.
Per ICv2, the same day DC will release 100 Bullets, followed by Batgirl: Year One on February 16, Superman: Man of Steel by John Byrne on March 16, and John Constantine, Hellblazer and Catwoman: When In Rome, both in April.
And then on July 1, eight days before the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow hits theaters, the publisher will release a massive Superman Compact Comics box set that includes four previously released Superfamily Compact Comics, as well as the previously unannounced Superman: Brainiac by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank, and Superman: Secret Identity by Kurt Busiek and Stuart Immonen.
Like with previous box sets, this collection of six books will only cost $49.99.
Dark Horse Collects Kirby Westerns:
Dark Horse is saddling up for The King Goes West: The Complete Marvel Westerns by Jack Kirby.
Covering the period from 1957 through 1961, the first of three planned volumes, per PR, finds editor and Marvel archival consultant Cory Sedlmeier collecting, “page after page of classic artwork alongside rare never-before-reprinted stories and covers. Chronicling a side of Marvel comics that paved the way for the modern Marvel Era, these Western stories take readers far from our bustling world to a place deep in the wilds of western settlements where Kirby’s imagination and artwork could invoke truly breathtaking storytelling.”
This will include characters like the Rawhide Kid, the Two-Gun Kid, and the Black Rider, who is not a kid.
The King Goes West: The Complete Marvel Westerns by Jack Kirby Volume 1: 1957-1961 hits stores on February 2, 2027.
BOOM! Launches Reads With You Challenge:
Do you dare read — or reread — BOOM! Studios comics? That’s the impossible challenge the publisher has put forth to readers, with the brand new Reads With You program.
Per The Beat, the challenge involves reading Something is Killing the Children, timed to the release of issue #50. According to the official page of the program, you’ll need to read issues #1 through #5 this week, which you can get as single issues, Volume 1 from your local store or library, as Episode 1-13 on Webtoon for free, or on Comixology.
BOOM! then teases you can “join us for discussions, hot takes, and monsterous surprises!” As for what those are and how to find them? Presumably on the webpage, though there’s no further info at this time. If you’re planning to join the reread, Something is Killing the Children #50 is scheduled for release on October 7, 2026.
