Want to walk a mile in Jack Kirby’s shoes? Well, now you can thanks to the Jack Kirby Museum & Research Center’s annual walking tour of New York.
Held from 11am to 12:30pm this Saturday, August 29, the walking tour, per a press release provided to Comic Book Club, will “tour of the New York neighborhood where comics legend Jack Kirby — co-creator of the Marvel Universe — grew up, tracing the streets and history that shaped his early life and career.”
The tour starts under the brand new Jack Kirby Way street sign, at the Northwest corner of Delancey and Essex Streets in Manhattan, aka near the frankly enormous McDonald’s. From there, “Kirby and comic historians” will lead fans around the Lower East Side to show off the cultural landmarks and architecture that helped Kirby craft everything from the Avengers and Captain America, to Darkseid*, the Fantastic Four, Hulk, and many more.
“The tour connects his Lower East Side childhood to the street co-naming of Jack Kirby Way, offering a unique, on-location, and cultural perspective on comics history and NYC landmarks, says the museum via release. If you’d like to join, just show up at the address above at the time noted, and get ready to punch any Nazis you see along the way right in the snoot.
