This is Comic Book Club News for August 21, 2026.
Wolverine: Origin III Brings Logan To War… And Peace:
Marvel is going back to the origin of Wolverine, again, with Origin III – The Dark Age. Written by Paul Jenkins with art by CAFU, the five-issue series will begin this December.
The six issue series Wolverine: Origin written by Paul Jenkins with art by Andy Kubert was released in 2001-2002, and while it was controversial — as any origin of Wolverine would be — it added plenty of now accepted aspects to the character, like his name being James Howlett and his half-brother might be Sabretooth.
This was followed in 2013 by a five-issue sequel series by Kieron Gillen and Adam Kubert (brother of Andy) titled — what else — Origin II, which continued the story a few years later.
And now, because we have to do this every decade or so, we’re getting Origin III. The synopsis, per Marvel, “Enter the Dark Age! After years of trauma and back-to-back tours of duty fighting in the first two World Wars, Logan has found his new mission…peace! With his berserker rage and violent tendencies somehow behind him, Logan enjoys a new life of tranquility and service. Logan will meet new friends and allies, and with the help of an impassioned young doctor, discover what makes him tick. But what is the cause of this newfound happiness…and how long can it last?”
Wolverine: Origin III – The Dark Age #1 hits stores on December 16, 2026.
New York Comic Con Reveals Panel Schedule:
New York Comic Con 2026 is still about two months away, but ReedPop has released the full panel and progamming lineup for the con already. And it includes plenty for comic book fans, movie fans, and even book fans.
Taking place at the Javits Center in New York City from October 8-11, 2026, the packed schedule for the 20th anniversary of the con will announce the full lists for Artist Alley, Writers Block, and Exhibitors on August 25. But in the meantime, we’ve got some panel highlights.
Let’s talk Marvel first. In addition to the “Up Next From Marvel Television and Marvel Animation” panel on Thursday, new EIC Steve Wacker’s signature panel has a name: “Marvel Comics: Bullpen Bulletins! with Stephen Wacker.” This follows on Joe Quesada’s “Cup of Joe,” and CB Cebulski’s “Next Big Thing” panel, which originally called “Mug of CB”, so a missed opprotunity not to title this panel “Tall Glass Of Wacker.” There are also more Marvel panels including one focused on Spider-Man, one for the Midnight Universe, which debuts the same week as the con, and something called the “House of Ideas” which plugs “a New Day for the House of Ideas and tomorrow is on full display.” Intriguing!
DC, meanwhile, has a Vertigo and Black Label panel, an Absolute Universe panel, a Next Level panel, and Jim Lee’s signature “Jim Lee & Friends” panel, which is always a blast and a half.

DC Reprints Issue Where Batman Slaps Robin:
You’ve seen the memes, now read the actual issue as DC Comics will reprint World’s Finest #153, aka the issue where Batman slaps Robin.
Per 13th Dimension, the facsimile edition will reprint the main story by Edmond Hamilton and Curt Swan which found Batman and Superman turning into deadly enemies when the Dark Knight blames the Man of Steel for Thomas Wayne’s death. But the real highlight is the page where Batman slaps Robin, in context. Wild!
Even better, the facsimile will come with a blank sketch cover, and you know fans are gonna go hog wild with that one in Artist Alley at conventions.
World’s Finest #153 facsimile edition hits stores on November 4, 2026.
