This is Comic Book Club News for August 19, 2026.
Judge Dredd Collection To Include Banned Stories:
2000AD recently announced they’re hopping on the Compact Comics craze with collections of classic Judge Dredd issues. And while Judge Dredd: Compact Crimes Volume 1 won’t hit stores until January of next year, we already have news about the second volume, which will include previously banned Judge Dredd stories.
Per ICv2, the second volume will include several pages from 1978’s “Cursed Earth” storyline which included images of mascots like Ronald McDonald, the Jolly Green Giant and more doing horrible things. The publisher was sued by McDonald’s, Burger King, and Green Giant over the pages, forbidden from printing them again, and even had to publish a strip showing that the Jolly Green Giant was a good guy.
After copyright and parody laws changed in the UK, the stories were republished in 2014. And now, you can check them out again when Compact Crimes Volume 2 hits stores on February 23, 2027.
Marvel Comics Presents Will Be Collected For The First Time:
Throughout the 1980s, Marvel released an anthology series titled Marvel Comics Presents which included stories from pretty much all of the great writers and artists of the day. And it’s never been collected in full… Until now.
Per 13th Dimension, the Marvel Comics Presents Omnibus Volume 1 will collect the first 25 issues of the title. At 920 pages, that includes stories including Wolverine by Chris Claremont and John Buscema, Steve Gerber, Doug Moench and Don McGregor on Man-Thing, Shang-Chi and Black Panther, and many more. There’s even stories from Steve Ditko and Dave Cockrum on Havok and Colossus.
The 125 page hardcover will hit stores on April 20, 2027. And with 125 issues in the run of the comic, there are likely more omnibuses to come.
Digital Sales Stay Steady At 5-10% Of Comics Market:
Digital comics aren’t going anywhere, but they’re also not replacing physical sales any time soon.
Per Publisher’s Weekly, while exact figures aren’t available from all publishers, in a post-Comixology landscape, DC has stayed “steady,” Dark Horse has “leveled out to around 5% of sales,” IDW is “a stable 10%” and Image says they have never recovered since Amazon bought Comixology.
As The Beat points out, these numbers don’t necessarily account for the Netflix-style Marvel Unlimited or DC Infinite apps, or same for all-you-can-eat platforms like GlobalComix. As is, digital is part of the ecosystem, well over a decade in; but it isn’t the comic book store killer some shop owners thought it would be.
