This is Comic Book Club News for August 18, 2026.
Jean Grey Returns In New Five Issue Miniseries:
Jean Grey’s grey jeans are headed back to Earth in a five issue miniseries from Marvel.
Written by Jed MacKay with art by Rogê Antônio, the series will take place after the events of DNX, though how Jean (who is in space) will tie into the series (which is set on Earth) is TBA. However, after the five issue series, Jean Grey will be a big part of the X-Men going forward, in the ongoing series.
So, what will happen in the five issues? Per the synopsis, “The PHOENIX is headed to Earth. JEAN GREY is aflame within. When she touches down, will she consume all she touches…or will she maintain control of the life-giving, life-taking power coursing through her? Hot on the heels of DNX — a new chapter for Jean Grey and the X-MEN begins HERE AND NOW!”
Okay, cool! Anyway, spoilers for Spider-Man: Brand New Day but it’s sort of surprising given the massive popularity of the movie that there isn’t even more of a push to have a Jean Grey title that aligns closer to Sadie Sink’s take. Perhaps Jean gets deaged? I dunknow, I don’t work at Marvel, leave me alone.
Jean Grey #1 hits stores on November 25, 2026.
Lady Baltimore Also Returns In New Miniseries:
No need to be crabby, more Lady Baltimore is on the way from Dark Horse Comics. Mike Mignola, Christopher Golden and Bridgit Connell will join forces once again for Lady Baltimore: The Constant Death of Dr. Rose, a three-issue series debuting this December.
The series will find Lady Baltimore and her delicious crab cakes (may be wrong about that) travelling to a remote town that’s been destroyed by a horrible monster. But, “when she arrives, the ghost of Lord Baltimore warns her that an even more devastating evil has been unleashed. Their old ally, Dr. Rose has been possessed by the living embodiment of the plague.”
Lady Baltimore: The Constant Death of Dr. Rose #1 will hits stores on December 16, 2026.
ECCC To Eliminate Badges:
Emerald City Comic Con is eliminating badges, and there may be more cons to come.
Per The Beat, the news was announced by ReedPop on their social channels, with the news that using your mobile phone in the convention app will replace badges in 2027. The reasons? A “smoother experience,” and better for eliminating plastic waste. However, there’s the unstated reason that it’s much harder to sneak someone your cell phone so they can get into the con, versus a badge.
While naturally there’s been a lot of worry about this ReedPop assures fans that if you don’t have a phone, there will be options. Additionally, a limited run of commemorative badges will be available to collectors for a donation to the Seattle Children’s Hospital.
Is this a sign of things to come? Will New York Comic Con 2027 go badgless, too? More on this as it develops.
